Code of the Duelist: Supreme King Dragons

August 2nd, 2017

In Maximum Crisis, we first saw the awesome Supreme King Z-ARC, a crazy strong Fusion Pendulum Monster. It was tough to use at first, since it needs four Dragons as its Fusion Materials, and they need to be one each of Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, and Pendulum. Then, Pendulum Evolution gave us new Magician Pendulum Monsters and Astrograph Sorcerer and Chronograph Sorcerer to get Z-ARC into play even easier. Finally, Code of the Duelist is bringing the final Supreme King monsters, the DARK variants of the Dimension Dragons themselves!

Supreme King Z-ARC has the power to Special Summon a Supreme King Dragon from your Deck or Extra Deck, any time it destroys something in battle. Until now, your only choice was Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm. Darkwurm is a strong card, but its ATK is a bit lacking and it isn’t very helpful if you aren’t using a strategy focused on Supreme King Gate Zero and Supreme King Gate Infinity. With these new Dragons, you’ll have even more powerful options to Special Summon with Z-ARC.

If you’ve got two Supreme King Dragons on the field, you can Tribute them to Special Summon Supreme King Dragon Odd-Eyes from your hand. Since Odd-Eyes is the only one of the Supreme King Dragons you’ll play in the Main Deck, this will help you get it in play if you draw it before you can Special Summon it with Z-ARC.

Supreme King Dragon Odd-Eyes has one very simple effect. All of your Pendulum Monsters deal double battle damage when battling an opponent’s monster! That will affect Odd-Eyes itself, Z-ARC, Darkwurm, or any of your Magicians, just to name a few. In addition, during the Battle Phase you can use Odd-Eyes’s Quick Effect to Tribute it, and you’ll get to Special Summon up to two face-up Supreme King Dragon or Supreme King Gate monsters from your Extra Deck, in Defense Position. Even if you gave up two monsters to Special Summon Odd-Eyes from your hand, this effect lets you replace them with new cards and even use their effects. Just remember, you’ll need a Link Monster ready to open up your Main Monster Zones if you’re going to Special Summon multiple monsters!

Finally, if you play Odd-Eyes in your Pendulum Zone you can Tribute a Supreme King Dragon, then destroy Odd-Eyes to search your Deck for a Pendulum Monster with 1500 or less ATK. You can Tribute Darkwurm after you’ve used its effect, or Tribute a monster you Special Summoned with one of your Supreme King Gate effects, since the Gates negate their effects and reduce their ATK/DEF to 0.

Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom is a combination of any two DARK Pendulum Monsters. While you can Special Summon using the usual Polymerization and such, you can also play it by simply Tributing the Fusion Materials if you control them. Once each turn, you can have Starving Venom copy the name and effects of any monster on the field or in either Graveyard. The change lasts for the whole turn, but that’s not all. Starving Venom will also make it so every one of your monsters inflicts piercing damage against Defense Position monsters that turn!

Starving Venom is particularly cool because it can be played in any strategy using DARK Pendulum Monsters. None of its effects require other Supreme Kings to be used.

Z-ARC already can wipe out your opponent’s field, but why not have more ways to clear the field? With Supreme King Dragon Clear Wing, you can destroy all your opponent’s face-up monsters when it is Synchro Summoned. Plus, once each turn Clear Wing will automatically destroy a monster it is battling. This works on offense and defense, making Clear Wing a versatile threat.

Finally, if Clear Wing is in the Graveyard, you can Tribute two Supreme King Dragon monsters to Special Summon it back to the field! Just like with Odd-Eyes, you’ll probably want to use a Darkwurm after you’ve used its effect, or Special Summon some Supreme King Dragons with the effects of your Supreme King Gates.

So, what do you need to have to Synchro Summon Clear Wing? Any Tuner is fine, as long as it’s used with a non-Tuner DARK Pendulum. You’ll most likely want to use White Wing Magician along with one of the other Magician Pendulum Monsters.

Finally, it’s Supreme King Dragon Dark Rebellion. An Xyz Monster that requires two DARK Pendulum Monsters, you’ll once again most likely be using the Magicians for this Dragon.

By detaching an Xyz Material before damage calculation once each turn, you can have Dark Rebellion reduce the ATK of the monster it’s battling to 0. Then, Dark Rebellion will gain the same amount of ATK as that was lost.

Dark Rebellion also has an effect like Odd-Eyes. During the Battle Phase, you can return Dark Rebellion to the Extra Deck and Special Summon two Supreme King Dragons or Gates from face-up in your Extra Deck. Since you won’t want Dark Rebellion much after it runs out of Xyz Materials, you can replace it with some more useful cards.

The Supreme King Dragons are some awesome new takes on some awesome Extra Deck Dragons, and makes Supreme King Z-ARC and the Magician Pendulum strategy even stronger. Look for them in Code of the Duelist, out this week!
