Hidden Summoners: Up To No Good

November 14th, 2018

Prank-Kids are a new theme from Hidden Summoners that boast quite the explosive strategy. A concoction of Fusion and Link Summoning, the Prank-Kids are all about mixing up trouble and then breaking apart to do it all over again.

Prank-Kids Fansies, Prank-Kids Dropsies, and Prank-Kids Lampsies are the three Main Deck monsters the strategy has access to until Prank-Kids Rocksies makes its debut in the Soul Fusion Special Edition. Whenever one of the Prank-Kids hits the Graveyard after being used as a material for a Fusion or Link Summon of a “Prank-Kids” monster, its unique effect will trigger, then it’ll Special Summon a Prank-Kid from your hand or Deck! Fansies will send a “Prank-Kids” card from your Deck to the Graveyard, Dropsies will gain you 1000 Life Points, and Lampsies will inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent. The real payoff is getting another monster onto the field though so you can keep the Extra Deck monsters flowing.

Prank-Kids has a total of three Fusion and three Link Monsters to play with from Hidden Summoners. Prank-Kids Weather Washer and Prank-Kids Rocket Ride both have effects that let you tribute them to Special Summon two Prank-Kids with different names from the Graveyard. Rocket Ride can only use this during your turn, while Weather Washer’s is a quick effect that can only be activated during your opponent’s. Weather Washer will also prevent the Special Summoned monsters from being destroyed by battle though, so it’s great on defense and you’re almost guaranteed to have materials available the following turn. Instant Fusion is a great way to Summon Rocket Ride so you can accelerate your combo immediately.

Prank-Kids Bow-Wow-Bark and Prank-Kids Dodo-Doodle-Doo both have similar effects, but let you add back two “Prank-Kids” cards with different names instead of Special Summoning. Like Weather Washer, Bow-Wow-Bark can only use its effect during your opponent’s turn, whereas Dodo-Doodle-Doo is like Rocket Ride so it can only be used during yours. Prank-Kids Dodo-Doodle-Doo lets you add a “Prank-Kids” Spell/Trap from your Deck as soon as it is Link Summoned, so it’s a huge role player for your combos. The rest of these monsters do have additional effects, but they are mostly low impact. The big effects are on their two boss monsters:

Prank-Kids Battle Butler requires all three of the Prank-Kids from Hidden Summoners to Fusion Summon. With 3000 ATK and 3000 DEF, it’s a huge threat as soon as it hits the field. It also has a very powerful Quick Effect that lets you tribute it to destroy all monsters your opponent controls! Whether offensively or defensively, Battle Butler immediately poses a problem for your opponent. If it can attack over your opponent’s monster, you can just sit back while they try to figure out the best way to deal with your Battle Butler before it destroys all of their monsters. As a bonus, if it’s sent to the Graveyard by your opponent’s card effect, you can Special Summon a non-Fusion Monster from your Graveyard, giving you immediate access to one of the Link Monsters.

Prank-Kids Rip-Roarin-Roaster also has a Quick Effect that lets you tribute itself, but it destroys Spells and Traps rather than monsters. It also has the same protection effect as Battle Butler, but rather than Special Summoning a non-Fusion, it Special Summons anything but a Link Monster. In tandem, Battle Butler and Rip-Roarin-Roaster can completely dismantle your opponent’s field, making it easy to get at their Life Points.

Last but definitely not least, Prank-Kids also have strong Spells that really boost their strategy. Prank-Kids Place is a Field Spell that will add a Prank-Kids monster from your Deck to your hand when it’s activated. It also has two bonus effects that either boost your monsters ATK if you Fusion Summon, or reduce your opponent’s monster’s ATK if you Link Summon, but you’re really in it for the search effect. Prank-Kids Pandemonium is key for the Deck as it is the primary way you will be Fusion Summoning. It’s a Quick-Play Spell so you can pull off some powerful sequences the same way El Shadoll Fusion can, but it does limit you to only Summoning “Prank-Kids” for the remainder of the turn after you activate it. Prank-Kids Pranks is a deceptively strong Continuous Spell that will let you discard a “Prank-Kids” card so you can Special Summon a “Prank-Kids Token”. Monster acceleration is always strong, and we have seen just how good Token producers can be for Link strategies. In addition, you can also use its additional effect during the End Phase to shuffle 3 “Prank-Kids” cards from your Graveyard into your Deck to draw a card! So you always have an effective way to get more resources.

You can find all of the Prank-Kids in Hidden Summoners, out tomorrow at Official Tournament Stores and Friday everywhere else!
