Hidden Summoners: From the Ashes

November 16th, 2018

Dust off your old copies of Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, because they’re about to get a lot stronger! Hidden Summoners introduces a bunch of new Nephthys cards to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME! These new Nephthys cards transform the Nephthys theme into one that relies on Ritual Summoning monsters to achieve victory. They also help Nephthys Duelists tap into the power of the immortal Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys that was released over a decade ago in Flaming Eternity.

The Ritual Spell Card, Rebirth of Nephthys, is at the core of the new Nephthys strategy.

You can use it to Ritual Summon any Nephthys Ritual Monster, as long as you also Tribute monsters from your hand and/or field whose total Levels equal or exceed the Level of the monster you’re Ritual Summoning. If you Tribute Devotee of Nephthys or Cerulean Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys when you use Rebirth of Nephthys, you also get to destroy any card on the field after Ritual Summoning your monster. To keep everything simple, the two monsters that you can Tribute to get the bonus effect from Rebirth of Nephthys are also the two monsters that you can Ritual Summon by using Rebirth of Nephthys.

Devotee of Nephthys is a Level 2 Ritual Monster that has 1200 ATK and 2 effects that can each be used once per turn.

If it’s Ritual Summoned, its first effect lets you Special Summon a Nephthys monster from your Deck and then destroy Devotee of Nephthys during the End Phase. You can use this effect to easily Special Summon Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys from your Deck. Its second effect can be used while Devotee of Nephthys is in your Graveyard. If it’s in your Graveyard, you can destroy a Nephthys card in your hand and then Special Summon Devotee of Nephthys back from the Graveyard.

Cerulean Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys is a Level 8 Ritual Monster that also has 2 effects that can each be used once per turn.

Its first effect lets you destroy Nephthys cards in your hand and/or face-up on your field and then destroy an equal number of monsters your opponent controls. Its second effect lets you Special Summon your Cerulean Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys back to your field during your next Standby Phase after it’s destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard.

Devotee of Nephthys and Cerulean Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys both have effects that let you destroy your own Nephthys cards. Those effects are best used with Nephthys cards that have effects that activate after they’re destroyed. Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, for example, will Special Summon itself back from the Graveyard after it’s destroyed by a card effect, even if it was destroyed while it was in the hand.

The new Disciple of Nephthys Effect Monster in Hidden Summoners also has an effect that activates after it’s destroyed by a card effect.

Once per turn, during your next Standby Phase after it’s destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard, you can add a Nephthys Spell or Trap Card from your Deck to your hand. Use this effect to add Rebirth of Nephthys to your hand after destroying your Disciple of Nephthys.

Disciple of Nephthys also has an effect that you can use while it’s on the field. Once per turn, you can destroy a card in your hand to add a Nephthys monster from your Deck to your hand, other than Disciple of Nephthys. This effect will help you pull together the monsters you need to perform a Ritual Summon, while also providing an outlet to destroy Nephthys cards in your hand to trigger their effects.

In addition to all of the cards mentioned above, Hidden Summoners introduces two new Nephthys Link Monsters to bring the Nephthys theme into the VRAINS era of Dueling!

Nephthys, the Sacred Preserver is a Link-2 monster that can be Summoned by using any 2 Nephthys monsters as Link Materials. It has 2 different effects that can be activated if it was Link Summoned, but only 1 of them can be used per turn.

Its first effect lets you add a Level 8 Winged Beast monster from your Deck to your hand, and then lets you add a Ritual Spell from your Graveyard to your hand. Use this effect to add Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys or Cerulean Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys to your hand, and then grab Rebirth of Nephthys from your Graveyard if it’s in there.

The second effect lets you destroy a Nephthys monster that it points to and Special Summon a Nephthys monster with a different original name from your Graveyard with its effects negated. Use this effect to trade in your weaker Nephthys monsters for stronger ones, or take advantage of the effects of your Nephthys monsters that activate after they’re destroyed.

Nephthys, the Sacred Flame is a Link-3 monster with 2400 ATK that you can Summon by using 2 or more monsters, including at least 1 Ritual Monster, as Link Materials.

While it’s in the Extra Monster Zone, Nephthys, the Sacred Flame prevents your opponent from attacking Nephthys monsters in your Main Monster Zone. It also gains effects based on the number of Ritual Monsters you use to Link Summon it. If you use at least 1 Ritual Monster as a Link Material to Summon it, it can’t be destroyed in battle. If you use at least 2, it also can’t be destroyed by card effects and gains 1200 ATK. If you use 3 Ritual Monsters as Link Materials to Summon it, it gains another 1200 ATK and can’t be targeted by card effects.

Link Summoning Nephthys, the Sacred Flame with 3 Ritual Monsters will make it virtually invincible! If you manage to do it, your Nephthys, the Sacred Flame will have 4800 ATK, can’t be destroyed by battle or card effects, can’t be targeted by card effects, and will prevent your other Nephthys monsters from being attacked. Nephthys, the Sacred Flame is the ultimate boss monster for the Deck.

Hidden Summoners and the new Nephthys cards are available now!
