Arena of Lost Souls: Call of the Haunted

March 21st, 2019

Welcome to the third preview article for Speed Duel: Arena of Lost Souls! Today we are going to be taking another look at the newest character joining Speed Duel: Bonz!

In our last article, we looked at the Bonz Skill Ectoplasmic Fortification! which is a great option for Zombie Decks. While Bonz is known for his Zombies, his next spooky Skill Card can be utilized by almost any strategy. During Duelist Kingdom, after Bonz baited Joey into destroying all of his monsters, he flipped the iconic Call of the Haunted to revive his army of monsters and turn the tides of the Duel!

At the start of the Duel, place this card in your center Spell & Trap Zone. You cannot activate this Skill during your first turn of the Duel. You draw 1 less card at the beginning of the Duel.

Activate this card by targeting 1 monster in your GY; Special Summon that target in Attack Position. When this card leaves the field, destroy that monster. When that monster is destroyed, destroy this card.

Call of the Haunted can turn a Duel on its head in an instant, helping you get an extra monster into play straight from your Graveyard. The cool part about it being a Skill Card is that you can build your strategy around it, knowing that you’ll always have access to it when you need it.

While Call of the Haunted is very flexible, you’ll primarily want to use it to either resurrect a monster that will give you a lot of value like Legion the Fiend Jester or a big threat like Buster Blader. You’ll draw one less card at the beginning of the Duel if you choose Call of the Haunted as your Skill Card, but the upside of the Special Summon swinging the Duel back in your favor is pretty nice. It gives your Deck a built in answer to cards like Champion’s Vigilance which would otherwise shut down your play.

You can also build big combos around your Call of the Haunted to make it as valuable as possible. Relinquished is one of the best removal cards available in Speed Duel, and getting to use its effect multiple times can deal with even the best fields. In combination with Wonder Wand, you can use the effect of Relinquished and then cash it in for 2 new cards. Once it hits the Graveyard, you can revive it back with Call of the Haunted to use its effect again and remove a second monster from your opponent’s field! This combo can help you deal with the targeting protection that comes with Lord of D., by getting rid of the Lord of D. first and then a Blue-Eyes White Dragon once it is off the field. After that, you’ll have a 3000 ATK Relinquished ready to battle!

Call of the Haunted is a flexible Skill that has a lot of utility, so if nothing else seems to fit your strategy too well, you can consider it for your Deck. Join us again for another preview article for Speed Duel: Arena of Lost Souls!
