Dark Neostorm: Light in the Dark
Synchro Monsters made a big comeback in Savage Strike, but the hits keep coming in Dark Neostorm.
Some of the best Synchros of all time are actually Tuners – cards like Formula Synchron, T.G. Wonder Magician, Accel Synchron and Coral Dragon all anchored huge combos in their time, and Denglong, First of the Yang Zing was so powerful it had to be Forbidden.
Ib the World Chalice Justiciar doubles down on that concept: it’s a Tuner itself, but it also turns others monsters into Tuners too. Check it out.
The newest incarnation of Ib has a respectable 1800 ATK and three different effects, all of which help you put together impressive plays.
First up, when you’re Synchro Summoning Ib you can treat 1 “World Chalice” Normal Monster you control as a Tuner. Chosen by the World Chalice is always a great choice since it’s a Level 3 Psychic-Type: you can Special Summon it straight from your Deck with Emergency Teleport and instantly have a Tuner for Ib the World Chalice Justiciar. Beckoned by the World Chalice has a place in many World Chalice builds too.
If Ib is Synchro Summoned and sent from the field to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon 1 “World Chalice” monster from your Deck or Graveyard (except Ib itself). That means if you Tune Ib to one or more monsters for a Synchro Summon, you’ll get to Special Summon one of those Normal Monsters from your Deck or Graveyard, or even revive a “World Chalice” Link Monster.
But the biggest reason to play Ib might be its last remaining effect: if you Synchro Summon it, you can search your deck for a “World Legacy” card and add it to your hand. That effect lets you grab some fantastic stuff.
There are dozens of cards you can search with Ib, but World Legacy Succession might be the most popular: it’s a Monster Reborn type Spell that lets you revive a monster from your Graveyard, placing it in any zone a Link Monster points to. It’s a great card on its own, but it’s especially good when you’re searching it for free. Spoiler: there are combos that let you Summon Ib the World Chalice Justiciar with just one card, so getting another card for free is pretty crazy.
Other “World Legacy” cards like World Legacy’s Heart and World Legacy’s Memory have seen their share of table time too, but Dark Neostorm has a really powerful option you’ll want to be aware of: World Legacy Monstrosity. It’s a Quick-Play Spell that lets you choose between Special Summoning a Level 9 monster from your hand, or targeting a Level 9 monster you control to Special Summon two more Level 9s from your Deck with different Types and Attributes.
World Legacy Monstrosity is really good with True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher and True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer since they’re Level 9 monsters that are easy to put on the field. From there you can Special Summon any two Level 9s you want and make your plays: Xyz Summoning True King of All Calamities is a good start.
What kind of Deck would do that? How about True King Dinosaurs!
With Miscellaneousaurus fresh off the Forbidden & Limited List, Dinosaur Duelists are perfectly positioned to play Ib the World Chalice Justiciar. Just Summon Souleating Oviraptor, use its ability to send Miscellaneousaurus to the Graveyard and banish it to Special Summon the Level 1 Tuner Jurrac Aeolo. Tune Aeolo to your Level 4 Oviraptor and ta-da, that’s Ib the World Chalice Justiciar for just one card.
From there you can do whatever you want, but if you’ve got True King Agnimazud or True King Bahrastos ready to go you may want to search that World Legacy Monstrosity and go for True King of All Calamities. Remember too that Synchro Summoning Ib places Oviraptor and Aeolo into the Graveyard, setting you up for Ultimate Conductor Tyranno.
Ib the World Chalice Justiciar’s an amazing monster that works in lots of different Decks, and helps builds the kind of combos that win Duels. With Dinosaurs getting a boost from the F&L List it’s definitely going to see tournament play. Make sure you’re ahead of the curve.
