This past weekend at the YCS in Charlotte we saw Thor, Lord of the Aesir annihilate a dude. It was awesome. And do you know what would be even more awesome? Thor and Loki, Lord of the Aesir annihilating someone at the same time.
The stage is set: while YCS Dallas saw the earth-shaking debut of the new Legendary Six Samurai Deck, the playing field is now a little more level thanks to the March 1st Forbidden and Limited List . With Storm of Ragnarok now widely available, Duelists are ready and able to explore new strategies in a new tournament environment. And slowly, competitors are coming to appreciate the true power of the Nordics.
There are a lot of things that are obvious about the Nordic theme. Thor, Odin, and Loki are really big. Checkmark. Gleipnir, the Fetters of Fenrir is one of the best search cards ever printed. Checkmark. But from there, things get a little hazy for many Duelists. In order to really “get it,” most have to play the Deck. It’s only when the cards are in your hand (and your opponent’s face gets that confused look as he tries to decide whether or not he should attack your face-down) that it all gets clear. This Deck isn’t just about massive, flashy Synchro Monsters. It’s also about efficient plays; careful card management; and forcing your opponent to make decisions they don’t want to make. Because if they don’t keep attacking, you’re going to blow away their field with Black Rose Dragon and then throw down a monster with 4000 Attack Points. This Deck is fast, smart, and cerebral.
Each of the 3 Aesir in Storm of Ragnarok rule over their own tribe of Nordic monsters and Loki’s the Aesir in charge of the Nordic Alfar! The Nordic Alfar themselves work together to help you Synchro Summon Loki. Here are some combos you can do with these cards to Summon Loki and some cards that can help make your Nordic Alfar Deck stronger!
Loki, Lord of the Aesir may not have as many Attack Points as Thor and Odin, but the Trickster God is never about brute force! His effects reward Duelists that build their Deck around his unique powers, offering all sorts of tricks to clever competitors. Check ‘im out!
The Storm of Ragnarok Sneak Peek is a matter of days away, and we still haven’t taken a look at the monster on the cover! Odin, Father of the Aesir is a Level 10 Synchro Monster that requires a “Nordic Ascendant” Tuner monster and two or more non-Tuner monsters. Like the rest of the Aesir family, Odin has a monstrous effect, monstrous ATK, and monstrous DEF. Once he enters the fray, he almost never leaves.
