Level 4 and lower monsters are the basic building blocks of Decks. If you don’t have enough Level 4 and lower monsters in your Deck, you’ll have trouble drawing monsters to attack your opponent or defend your own Life Points. If you’re just starting out, there are plenty of Level 4 and lower monsters that you can use from Starter Deck: Dawn of the Xyz and Generation Force to help you win some early Duels.

The release of Xyz monsters has caused Duelists worldwide to ask themselves the same question: “How can I fit all of these new monsters into my already full Extra Deck?” The key is to optimize your Extra Deck to contain only the monsters that really help you out and leave out the ones you rarely, if ever, use. Cards that negate Summons have become increasingly popular over the past few months. Solemn Warning¸ which was recently Semi-Limited by the March 1st, 2011 Forbidden & Limited List, is now being played in pairs in just about every competitive Deck. Solemn Judgment, which was first released in Metal Raiders, has been floating around the tournament scene even longer. That’s why if you’re planning to enter a tournament, you should know how to stop these cards from negating your Summons.

Instead of sweeping changes like when Heavy Storm became Forbidden, the March 1st Forbidden and Limited List brought us a lot of smaller changes with subtle impacts. Duelists that capitalize on them are going to do really well in the coming weeks because most of these trends are bigger than just a single Deck or strategy, and the rising importance of Effect Veiler is one of the biggest.
Since its release in Duelist Revolution six months ago, Effect Veiler has steadily seen more use. Last format it was one of the few answers to Cold Wave, as well as a great counter to top cards like Debris Dragon and Gravekeeper’s Descendant. Cold Wave is now Forbidden from the Advanced Format, but other changes have made Veiler more important than it’s ever been before. Duelists who find the room for a Veiler or two in their Main Deck are going to have a big advantage over other competitors. Why? Because of how it affects many of the biggest, most popular cards and strategies in the new Advanced Format.
