4 Cool ‘Caster Combos!

September 17th, 2012

It’s been about 3 weeks since the release of Return of the Duelist, and I hope everyone has been having fun with all the new cards! The last few weeks of Dueling have been pretty interesting. At YCS Toronto, we saw two extremely successful Decks in the Top 4 that were built by combining new Return of the Duelist cards with older cards. There was a Geargia Deck that used Geargiarmor, Geargiaccelerator, Geargiarsenal, and Gear Gigant X along with Machina Gearframe, Machina Peacekeeper, and Machina Fortress. And the very cool second place Deck combined Grandsoil the Elemental Lord with EARTH Psychic monsters from Extreme Victory, Crossroads of Chaos, and The Duelist Genesis.

I mentioned way back in August that the Prophecy monsters and Spellbook cards can work with all Spellcaster-based strategies, and in light of the recent success of Duelists who are combining Return of the Duelist cards with their old favorites, I thought I’d share some cool combos you can do by combining Return of the Duelist cards with some of my old favorites! The Prophecy Foretold

July 30th, 2012

It’s one thing to be able to see the future. It’s another entirely to be able to see an unfavorable future, then smash it to bits and replace it with a new one where you reign victorious. The Prophecy Spellcasters that headline Return of the Duelist have the first one down pat, but they’ll also need the power of the Spellbooks and your own Dueling expertise to ensure that your Dueling future becomes a winning future!

Starstrike Blast: Supreme Arcanite Magician

November 10th, 2010

Supreme Arcanite Magician is part of the newest batch of Fusion Monsters that you can Summon with Miracle Synchro Fusion. It has more ATK, more DEF, and more powers than the original Arcanite Magician. Supreme Arcanite Magician enters the field with 1400 ATK and 2 Spell Counters, each of which gives it a 1000 ATK boost. That means it has 3400 ATK from the start! You can also remove one of those Spell Counters, or another Spell Counter on your side of the field, to destroy a card or draw a card from your Deck. With 2800 DEF, Supreme Arcanite Magician can defend you from attacks, even after you run out of Spell Counters.

Starstrike Blast Preview: Spellstone Sorcerer Karood and Powersink Stone

November 4th, 2010

Spellstone Sorcerer Karood gives Spellcaster Duelists a new way to disrupt Graveyard based combos. Whenever a monster other than Karood activates its effect, Karood gets a Spellstone Counter (it can only have 1 on it at a time) and its DEF goes up to 2200. Also, once per turn you can remove a Spellstone Counter from your side of the field to remove 1 of your opponent’s cards in their Graveyard from play. If you’re playing against Plant Synchro  or Quickdraw Dandywarrior you’ll want to get rid of Dandylion, Infernities don’t want to see their Infernity Archfiends get removed, and Monarch Decks have a difficult time doing anything if they don’t have a Treeborn Frog in the Graveyard.

Karood can get rid of your opponent’s combo pieces.
