Last Chance for Worlds: Jibri Thomas VS Bo Tang
Bo Tang is Canada’s last hope for a Worlds representative. A win here for Tang would place Canada into the World Championships. Defeat would mean a six-Duelist team representing the United States.

Victor Santana is running a new generation Herald Deck that he calls “Heralds of Hope”. Unlike the Herald builds of previous formats, Santana’s Deck isn’t packed with Normal Monsters that fuel Advanced Ritual Art. He’s not even running the extremely high Fairy count that some of the older Herald Decks run. Instead, he’s running Fairies, Fiends, and Spellcasters in his Deck, and that added versatility gives his Deck a lot of flexibility where other Herald Decks fell short. Read more…
Sometimes, the best part of attending a YCS has nothing to do with main event competition. When Dueling takes you to a world-class city like Orlando, Florida, sometimes the real fun happens off the tournament tables. Duelists are living it up in the grandeur of the Gaylord Palms Resort Hotel, home to this weekend’s tournament. Many came earlier in the week, too, taking quick vacations at Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and other nearby amusement parks. We hit the floor to ask the Duelists in attendance: “What’s your favorite part of the trip this weekend?”

Hello, you might remember me as the guy at the Bounty Tournament who played the new Nordic Deck at the Yu-Gi-Oh! Extravaganza this past weekend. Lots of people were excited to see the Aesir in action, so I’m writing this to tell you which new cards I played and how I did. Almost half my Deck was made up of Storm of Ragnarok cards. Here are the ones I used:
Saturday’s final event of the day was a unique experience, to be sure. 7 KDE employees, including myself, entered the fray as Bounty Duelists to give Duelists a chance to win the Yu-Gi-Oh! Extravaganza Game Mat and some Booster Packs. It’s a fun event to play because literally anything can happen. Most of the time when you’re at a tournament, someone will be on the microphone to tell you when your round will start, etc. Here, he’s on the microphone to spice up your Duels with a series of ever changing rules!
Retro Draft is attracting a lot of players old and new to try their hand with some of the best cards from the first years of Yu-Gi-Oh! Even our own Jason Grabher-Meyer decided to get out from behind the laptop and back to the tables to try his hand at it. He’s been Dueling since the dawn of time (or 2002, whichever is later) and he’s played with all the cards available in Retro Draft before. So I decided to sit in as he played in Retro Draft to see how he would approach it.
The 3 VS 3 Team Tournament was wildly popular, capping out at 64 teams competing, the max that we could fit in the room! I talked to some of these teams before the event to find out what their strategy for the event was. Would they each bring the Deck they’re best with and hope for favorable matchups, or would they all work hard on perfecting 1 Deck that they would all use to dominate the field. The latter strategy happened to work in the main event of the last YCS in Atlanta, with three friends who all built Gravekeeper’s and took the top 3 spots.
That wouldn’t be the case here, as no one I talked to even considered the possibility. The teams I talked to all had a huge variety of strategies ranging from a combination of Infernity, Elemental Heroes, and Quickdraw Dandywarrior to the odd-couple-plus-one of X-Sabers, a Shooting Star Dragon Deck, and Naturia. With 64 teams in the mix there are bound to be matchups that no one has even tested, let alone encountered in a real tournament, making this one exciting event to watch.
All you need to play is a Deck, and 2 friends who also have Decks, so give it a try at an event near you!
Retro Draft is one of the new Public Events that’ll start cropping up at events this year. It’s really easy to play, because all you need is 3 packs of the latest Retro Pack for each player! (Retro Pack 2) Retro Draft is an 8-player event, but you can play it with more or less players if you want to. If you play with more, break the players up into as many equal groups of 8 players or fewer that you can. Here’s how it works:
Once all the cards have been chosen, each player needs to use the cards they picked to make a 20-card minimum Deck. Cards that go in your Extra Deck don’t count towards the 20 cards. Other than needing at least 20 cards in your Main Deck, there ARE NO RULES! There are no Forbidden or Limited or Semi-Limited Cards, and if you choose more than 3 copies of a single
card you can play them ALL. It’s going to lead to some really exciting Duels today! Once everyone has their Deck ready, all the cards they didn’t include become the Side Deck, and its time to shuffle up and Duel.
Here are some tips for when you decide to Retro Draft with your friends. These all apply if you’re using Retro Pack 2.
Today marks the return of one of the most popular Public Events, first seen at YCS Indianapolis: the 3 VS 3 Team Tournament!
Players can sign up in teams of 3 to take on other teams for a chance to win uncut sheets of Duelist Revolution Secret Rares. Here’s how it works:
-Each team designates 1 person as Duelist A, 1 as Duelist B, and 1 as Duelist C. They keep that designation through the entire tournament and cannot change it.
-Each round, your team is paired up against another team. Duelist A from your team will Duel against Duelist A from the other team. Your Duelist B will take on their Duelist B, and your Duelist C will square off with their Duelist C.
-Each pair plays a complete Match.
-The first team to win 2 Matches takes the win for the round!
We’ll check in later to see what strategies teams are using to drive themselves to the top. Will Duelists from the same team all play the same Deck, or will each Duelist play to his own strengths to try and create favorable matchups? We’ll find out!
