Shunping Xu from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is Dueling against European Duelist Adrian Koch from Germany in our Top 4 Feature Match! Both of these Duelists are using strategies that were very popular in this weekend’s tournament, with Xu piloting a Sky Striker Deck and Koch piloting Goukis. This matchup has become a popular one in the current Advanced Format, due to the immense power of each of the two Decks. But after this Match is finished, only one of these two Duelists will be able to take his Deck to the Finals. It’s time to Duel!
This isn’t the finals, but it is a battle of champions! Michigan’s Jeff Jones is a UDS Champion and a two-time YCS Champion! He’s using Sky Strikers today, facing off against Texan Duelist Cameron Neal. Neal is also a UDS Champion, having won the Summer Invitational this year. He’s using a Gouki Deck, just like he used to win his UDS championship belt.
Welcome to the Top 16 of YCS Pasadena! In this round, we have Brian Ramirez from Moreno Valley, California Dueling against Blair Hunter from Warner Robins, Georgia at the Feature Match table! Ramirez is the last Cyber Dragon Duelist left in the tournament. He had an impressive showing in the Swiss Rounds. He finished the Swiss Rounds with a 9-2 record, and even won a Feature Match in Round 5 yesterday. Now, he’s up against Blair Hunter and his Thunder Dragons! Thunder Dragon Decks often rely on sticking Thunder Dragon Colossus or Thunder Dragon Titan on the field, and Ramirez’s Cyber Dragon cards can easily take care of monsters Summoned from the Extra Deck thanks to Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon. Will that make this a tough Match for Hunter? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!
1411 Duelists entered YCS Pasadena, and only 32 remain! The Feature Match this round is between Jake Quinsee from Huddersfield, England and Kai Koester from Hanover, Germany! Quinsee is a recognized and accomplished Duelist in Europe, having won a National Championship in 2011 and making repeatedly strong showings at European Championships, YCS events, and National Championship events. Koester isn’t quite as accomplished, but did make it into the Top 16 of YCS Rimini about a year ago, and is now looking to make it even further. Two of our European competitors are battling it out, and after a long flight to California for both of them and 11 consecutive Swiss Rounds of Dueling, one of them is about to be eliminated. It’s time to Duel!
We’re down to the final round of Swiss – after this, only the Top 32 Duelists will advance. Jonathan Rosario is a Los Angeles Duelist, and one of the only Burning Abyss Duelists still in contention. His opponent is Roman Kieser, here from Switzerland, and playing a DARK Warrior strategy which looks to establish an unbreakable field with Number 86: Heroic Champion – Rhongomyniad.
Luis Solis from Milwaukee, Wisconsin is currently 8-1 in YCS Pasadena with his Trickstar Deck that features a bunch of Sky Striker cards. He’s one of the few Trickstar Duelists remaining in the tournament, but needs just a couple more victories to secure his spot in the Top 32. Now he’s facing off against Darren Stephenson from England! Stephenson traveled to the United States specifically to compete in this tournament, and is looking for a YCS victory with his DARK Gouki Deck! Stephenson suffered his first loss of the tournament in yesterday’s Round 9 Feature Match, but now is his chance to redeem himself! It’s time to Duel!
We’re in the final Swiss round of YCS Pasadena! Abraham King, from Oregon, is using a Thunder Dragon strategy. The Deck came out hot on the scene at YCS Niagra Falls, but failed to reach the success many expected them to. However, there’s a good number of Thunder Dragon Duelists showing that the strategy is able to compete. King’s opponent is Darren Stephenson, here from the United Kingdom! He’s packing a Gouki Deck, one of the most popular strategies this weekend. His Deck gets a major power boost while playing here instead of at home, since Summon Sorceress is not yet legal for play in Europe.
Welcome to Round 8! We haven’t really seen Thunder Dragons at the Feature Match table, so we picked Wolf Lechte, who brought his Thunder Dragons all the way from Germany! He’s against Los Angeles Duelist Richard Barnett, who we saw win his Round 6 Feature Match with his Gouki Deck.
Niya Carter from Tujunga, California is currently 5-1 at YCS Pasadena with a Zombie Deck built around the cards in Structure Deck: Zombie Horde. Unlike most Zombie Decks you may be familiar with, Carter’s Deck relies on Zombie World to capitalize on the effects of his strongest monsters. To pull together his strategy, in addition to Doomking Balerdroch, he’s using Necroworld Banshee and Glow-Up Bloom from Structure Deck: Zombie Horde. Now, he’s Dueling against Daniel Rangel from Phoenix, Arizona in this Round 7 Feature Match! Rangel is using a Sky Striker Deck. Will the tried-and-true Sky Striker strategy prevail in this Feature Match, or will Carter’s innovative Zombie Deck be able to take the victory. We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!
