The Path to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2023 Continues!

THE 2023 YU-GI-OH! NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS BEGIN IN MAY, WITH THOUSANDS OF DUELISTS COMPETING ACROSS LATIN AMERICA

The path to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2023 continues!

Hawthorne, Calif. (February 15, 2023) – Starting in May, thousands of Duelists across Latin America will put their Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) skills to the test in the 2023 Yu-Gi-Oh! National Championships.

The 2022 Latin America Yu-Gi-Oh! National Championships saw more than 4,600 Duelists compete for the title of National Champion. Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. (KONAMI) is expecting thousands to compete again this year, as they look to ensure their path towards the highly anticipated Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship, after being on hiatus for the last 3 years, set to take place in Japan this August*.

KONAMI has revealed its plans to hold National Championships between May and June in 16 countries across Latin America. The countries will include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru.

The very best Duelists will compete in person for the right to call themselves National Champions, with special prizes on offer. Confirmed prizing includes Prize Cards along with travel and accommodation to either the 2023 Central or South America Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Qualifier, depending on their country of residence.

3rd Place Playoff Feature Match: Dominic Couch vs. Shanxiao Wan

Our Grand Finals game and our 3rd Place Playoff game are both Floowandereeze vs. Tearlaments matchups. We have Dominic Couch with the birds, and Shanxiao Wan with the fish. The winner of this Match will earn the YCS Prize Card, Anotherverse Dragon!

Top 8 Feature Match: Kenny Nguyen vs. Cristian Urena

Only 8 Duelists remain! Kenny Nguyen, from San Jose, CA, is the last Spright Duelist in the tournament. He’s facing Cristian Urena, from Redding, PA, using the ubiquitous Tearlaments strategy. These are two of the strongest Decks in the game right now, and two great Duelists. But only one can advance!

Top 32 Feature Match: Jarrid Centamore vs. Kylar Price

The Swiss Rounds are over, and only 32 Duelists remain! From here on out, it’s Single Elimination. We’ve got Jarrid Centamore, from New Jersey, in the Feature Match hot seat once again. He’s been on fire with his Runick Naturia Deck – the only Naturia Duelist to make the Top Cut. His opponent is Kylar Price, from Missouri, one of only two Duelists to make it in with pure Runicks. Price is looking to destroy his opponents’ Decks, and take advantage of the fact that so many Duelists are using Tearlaments, which do half the work for him.

Round 10 Feature Match: Abraham Rivera Cruz vs. Anthony Long Vang Jr.

We’re in Round 10, the final Swiss round! This Round determines who makes it to the Top 32, as well as who they’ll face there. For this Feature Match, we have Abraham Rivera Cruz, from Puerto Rico, playing a Runick Deck Destruction strategy. His Deck is packed with floodgates to control the board while his Runick spells pick away at his opponent’s cards. He’s up against Anthony Vang, from Sacramento, CA, playing the ever-popular Tearlaments.

These are the same Crystal Beasts we know and love, but a darker form from when Jesse Anderson was possessed by Yubel. Over the years we’ve seen dark forms of many favorite monsters, from Dark Elf in the early days, to Dark Armed Dragon, to the Twilightsworn. Tearlaments are the clear favorite! Over 80% of Duelists are predicting that they’re the Deck to beat! Other Decks got only one or zero votes.

Hopefully these Duelists have prepared with Tearlaments in mind! Or will we see a surprise victory instead? We’ll have to wait and see!
