Massachusetts’s Jack Hoyt just lost Round 5 to Scrap Duelist Cole Agan, and now his life in the tournament is on the line in this Round 6 Feature Match. Hoyt won last year’s WCQ Dragon Duel Championship, and now he’ll need to win this round in order to maintain hope for a repeat performance. But Abhishek Khadka won’t make that easy for him. Khadka traveled here from Virginia and is looking to take down Hoyt’s Plant Tengu Deck with his Gravekeeper’s!

While Decks like Gladiator Beasts, Six Samurai, and Plant Synchro variants have grown in very obvious ways over the past six months, Gravekeeper Decks have largely remained the same since their reappearance – and newfound dominance – at YCS Atlanta last year. With that said, the best Gravekeeper Decks here today have been innovated, and a handful of important tech cards have elevated the Deck to new heights.

Jonathan Weigle has topped 3 YCS events in the past year. He took second place at YCS Anaheim with Gravekeeper’s, Top 16 at YCS Orlando with Gravekeeper’s, and Top 32 at YCS Atlanta with X-Sabers. Now, he’s back with his Deck of choice, running Gravekeeper’s in the WCQ. His opponent, Nick Amato, doesn’t have any YCS tops and is running a Deck based around the Junk Synchron/Doppelwarrior combo in today’s tournament. Weigle has a favorable Matchup against this sort of Deck, plus experience on his side, so this may be a tough Match for Amato.

Angel Ascencio scored a Top 16 finish at YCS Anaheim back in April, making the cut with Gravekeepers. Today he’s back piloting a new version of the same Deck. His opponent, Michael Boyd, is running Tengu Synchro: in theory, a favorable matchup for Ascencio. We’ll see how that theory plays out, as these two undefeated Duelists go head to head!

In the past year, Desmond Boyd placed in the Top 16 of YCS Philadelphia and Top 16 at YCS Indianapolis, both with X-Sabers! Now, he’s back at the WCQ, this time playing a teched out Six Samurai Deck running 2 copies of Fiendish Chain and a copy of Vanity’s Emptiness. His opponent, Alberto Barrera, is competing in his first-ever WCQ with Gravekeeper’s. Boyd’s experience and Deck choice may give him the edge in this Match, but some great draws for Alberto Barrera could allow him to score a huge upset!
