Hands down, Tech Genus is the breakout Deck of Day 2. With a slew of competitors heading into the start of the Day packing pure Tech Genus builds with great records, our last Swiss round Feature Match sees Jeff Jones take on Hansel Aguero in – get this – a Tech Genus mirror Match! Both of these Duelists had 9-1 records so far, so both would likely be headed to the Top 64. But this one was for pride, personal accomplishment, and showmanship.

Jibri Thomas made it to the Top 16 at YCS Charlotte with his Zombiesworn Deck, and now he’s back for the WCQ, this time playing Tengu Plants! His opponent, Kalvin Harrigal, has never attended a YCS before and is entering his first-ever WCQ this weekend. Both of these Duelists currently have 7-2 records, but only one of them will be able to advance to the next round with 8 wins.

Welcome to Day 2! With 2 Rounds of Swiss competition still remaining before the cut to Top 64, there are several undefeated Duelists as we head into Round 10. Derric Brewer is one of them, securing a 9-0 record yesterday with a pure Tech Genus build! Tech Genus Decks actually did remarkably well yesterday, and the “pure” version – with no Plant-Types – may prove to be the breakout Deck of the tournament. Jeff Jones is 8-1 here this morning with a very similar strategy, and Brewer was his only loss yesterday: a Tech Genus mirror Match.
