QQ stands for Quick Questions! Dragon Ruler Decks are one of the big “Decks to Beat” this weekend, and Duelists are using all sorts of tech cards to gain the upper hand against them. Round 11 Feature Match: Bryan Rockenbach Versus Michael Albanese

Bryan Rockenbach took second at the US Championship in 2007, and now he was back, competing on the bubble with a shot at another Top 64. His opponent Michael Albanese is no stranger to success either, his list of accomplishments including a Top 32 finish at YCS Providence last year. One of these Duelists was likely headed to the Top 64 today. The other was likely headed home.

Round 10 Feature Match: Frazier Smith Versus Joseph Slone

Let’s check in with Frazier Smith! The winner of YCS Atlanta in 2010, Smith is one of the most storied and proven competitors in this tournament, holding more YCS top cut showings than he can count (around ten), and making the top cut in the last two North American WCQ’s! His opponent this round is Joseph Slone, a breakout Duelist from Kentucky who’s demonstrated a ton of ability with Dragon Rulers this weekend. Slone is no slouch, and could be a real threat here on the bubble. The winner of this match would likely lock their seat in the Top 64, while the loser would have to win their next match.
Round 9 Feature Match: Alexander Thomas Versus Hansel Aguero

New York’s Hansel Aguero was the champion of the North American WCQ in 2011, and is currently 7-1 in this year’s WCQ with his Dragon Ruler Deck. Now he’s paired against Oregon Duelist Alexander Thomas and his Madolche Deck in this Round 9 Feature Match! With 3 more rounds remaining in the Swiss portion of this weekend’s tournament, both Duelists will be Dueling their hardest to earn this victory in order to increase their chances of making the Top 64 cut.

Let’s look at the breakdown at the top ten tables this morning, here in our first round of Day 2! Only the top three tables are undefeated, while 7-1 Duelists rank all the way down to Table 29, so competition is fierce here in Round 9.
Round 9: Dalton Bousman Versus Matthew Rogers-Kuczka

Dalton Bousman is 7-1 today with a Prophecy deck maining High Priestess of Prophecy, Justice of Prophecy, and Defender, the Magical Knight! His opponent is one of the several remaining X-1 Duelists playing a rogue strategy – Matthew Rogers-Kuczka is playing Dragunities, bolsted by Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms. Both strategies can score explosive wins, or play grinding long games that quickly generate a ton of cards, so this one could be interesting.
