Top 64 Deck Breakdown

Heading into the weekend there were four big defined strategies that were expected to be heavily represented in the field. Burning Abyss had won the last two North American YCS, so it had a huge target on its head. Monarchs in various forms have been popular since their release, with Extra Deck Monarch pulling ahead by a substantial margin recently over its Domain counterpart. Two different variants of Pendulum had shined a bit more than the rest, one utilizing powerful Performapal combos while the other used the consistent Odd-Eyes Magician engine to Pendulum Summon huge threats like Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin and Mist Valley Apex Avian. Finally, Card of Demise has given life to a ton of different trap strategies as Duelists tried to find the best shell for it. What ended up being the most successful?

Dragon Duel Top 4 Feature Match: Aiden Tiemann versus Connor Perrotta

Both Aiden Tiemann and Connor Perrotta have Dueled their hearts out to make it this far. The winner of this match will guarantee their invite to the Dragon Duel World Championship in Orlando, Florida; the other will need to win his 3rd/4th place play-off match to get his invitation. Twelve year old Aiden Tiemann traveled from Austin, Texas this weekend, and has brought Performapals to the tournament. The premier Pendulum strategy, Performapals focus on strong combos and powerful Rank 4 plays to overwhelm the opponent. Eleven year old Connor Perrota made the trip from Lee, New York, and has chosen Burning Abyss as his weapon of choice. Can the evil Malebranches best the jovial Performapals? Or will the silly Pendulums reign supreme over the dastardly Fiends?

Round 10 Feature Match: Robert Kenny versus Michael Egna

Welcome to Day 2 of the North American World Championship Qualifier! We’re beginning the day with Bobby Kenny, from Orlando, FL, against Michael Egna, from Albany, NY. Each Duelist is using a Magician Pendulum Deck, though they’ve got some different card choices between their Decks. Specifically, Egna is using more Majespecter monsters and traps, while Kenny is using Performapal Splashmammoth for some extra Fusion power!
