We have two Peruvian Duelists for our Top 16 Feature Match. Martin Lira is one of two remaining Pendulum Magician Duelists, while Jose Alva is playing Sky Striker Trickstars. It’s last format’s dominant strategy against the new hotness – what will triumph?
For our first round, we’re featuring Jhon Vargas, from Venezuala. Vargas is one of only two Duelists to make it to the Top 64 with ABC! He’s facing Federico Vergara, from Colombia, who’s using Burning Abyss! This will be a very different Match from the usual Trickstar matchups we’ve encountered this weekend – let’s see how the Duelists adapt to a more unique opponent.
Aksony Contreras is a Venezuelan Duelist, though he currently resides in Colombia. As such, he was able to become the newest Colombian National Champion! He’s one of the few SPYRAL Duelists in attendance. His opponent is Sebastian Caro, here from Chile, using Trickstars. Unlike most Duelists this weekend, Caro has opted to play a pure Trickstar build, rather than mixing it with other themes like Sky Strikers.
Gonzalo Orihuela is here from Bolivia, packing a Mekk-Knight Sky Striker Trickstar Deck. This Frankenstein Deck has gained a lot of popularity this weekend, with Duelists using the best cards from each theme to generate a lot of advantage. His opponent is Alexander Choque, from Peru, using a Burning Abyss Chaos Deck! His Deck features only monsters, except for three copies of the new Sekka’s Lightfrom Flames of Destruction.
Helena Jeveaux is part of the judge team in Brazil, but she’s chosen to Duel this weekend instead. She’s up against Paulo Goncalves, another Brazilian Duelist and one of their finest! We’ve seen Goncalves make the top cut of too many tournaments to count. This will be a Sky Striker Trickstar mirror Match. Both Duelists currently have a 4-1 record, so they’ll really want a victory to keep their record strong and make it to the top cut tomorrow.
