Thomas Mak took third place at the 2011 World Championship Qualifier and earned a chance to compete in the 2011 World Championship in Europe. Now he’s back, competing for another chance to represent North America at the World Championship, this time in Tokyo, Japan. But to get there, he’ll need to get through Jerome Porter, who’s Dueling in his first WCQ! Both Duelists are 8-1, so a victory here will put one of them in a great position for a Top 64 finish. With an 8-1 record, Ervin So is the highest-ranked Canadian Duelist remaining in this tournament. Hailing from Toronto, So has two YCS playoff finished under his belt. His opponent this round is Orange County’s Mitchell Nguyen, another veteran Duelist with multiple Championship tops. Nguyen made the playoff rounds at YCS Chicago, YCS Long Beach, YCS San Jose, YCS Los Angeles, and several more Championship-level events. Twelve year-old Tyler Nilsson is competing this weekend with a Dino Rabbit Deck. He traveled here from Florida, and has so far achieved a 5-1 record. A win here would guarantee him a spot in the Top 16 tomorrow. But his opponent is Vincent Silverman, a veteran of YCS Dragon Duel events. At thirteen years of age, Silverman has made numerous appearances in Dragon Duel tournaments over the past year, and returns today placing his hopes in Chaos Dragons. Read more…
