Welcome to the playoffs! We’re in the Top 64 and we’re playing Single Elimination until we have a Champion of the North American WCQ! A loss here will knock a Duelist out of contention, so it’s high stakes for the next 6 Rounds! Ryan Gaskins from Sioux City, Iowa placed 11th after Swiss with a record of 9-1-1 with a Dinosaur Deck while his opponent, Russel Novak-Burdick from Sacramento, California placed 54th after Swiss with a record of 8-2-1 with Sky Striker Trickstars. Which of these Duelists will advance to Top 32?  It’s time to Duel!

North America WCQ Round 11 Feature Match: Brian Rayos vs. Gabriel Antonio Vargas

We’re at Round 11, the final round of Swiss. After this match, only the Top 64 players will advance to the Single Elimination playoff with the top 4 players qualifying for this year’s World Championship! Brian Rayos from Los Angeles, California has Sky Striker Trickstars, a variation of the Deck he used to top YCS Dallas, the event in which he earned his WCQ invite. We just saw his opponent, Gabriel Vargas on a livestream Feature Match and he has Gouki Deck. A win will solidify a spot in the Top Cut. It’s time to Duel!

South America WCQ Top 64 Feature Match: Jhon Brayant Manuel Vargas Ferreira vs. Federico Vergara Giraldo

For our first round, we’re featuring Jhon Vargas, from Venezuala. Vargas is one of only two Duelists to make it to the Top 64 with ABC! He’s facing Federico Vergara, from Colombia, who’s using Burning Abyss! This will be a very different Match from the usual Trickstar matchups we’ve encountered this weekend – let’s see how the Duelists adapt to a more unique opponent.

Round 10 Feature Match: Jeff Jones vs. Andres Torres Reyes

Two-time YCS Champion and Ultimate Duelist Jeff Jones is currently 7-2 with his Trickstar Sky Striker Deck. Jones consistently sees strong results in the tournaments that he enters, and now he’s Dueling using one of the most consistent Decks out there. Will Jones’s strong Dueling skills combined with the tried-and-true strategy he’s wielding allow him to secure a Top 64 finish and keep the dream of competing in the World Championship alive? North America WCQ Round 9 Feature Match: Michael Kyle Walters vs. Spencer Preston Donnelly

We’re now in Round 9 and we’re looking at a bubble match, one where a win is necessary to keep a player’s hopes of making the cut alive.  In this case, a win will give a player 19 points and a guaranteed day 2 appearance. Michael Walters is from Brampton, Ontario Canada and qualified for the WCQ by making top 16 at YCS San Diego.  His opponent is Spencer Donnelly from Rock Hill, South Carolina who got his invite from an OTS Championship at Get Some Game in Charlotte, North Carolina. Donnelly has pure Sky Strikers while Walters is 5-2-1 with… Zoodiac?! Even without the power cards of Zoodiac Drident and Zoodiac Broadbull, Walters has found a winning record with the strategy using new tools like Link Monsters and a solid anti-meta suite using cards like Mistake and Anti-Spell Fragrance.   Which one of these players will make it to Day 2?  It’s time to Duel!

North America WCQ Round 8 Feature Match: Brandon Miotke vs. Aaron Furman

Brandon Miotke from Detroit, Michigan has been Dueling since 2003, and now he’s 6-1 in the North America WCQ! He’s Dueling against Aaron Furman – an Ultimate Duelist, YCS Champion, and 2017 World Championship Competitor – whose only loss this weekend was in his on-stream Feature Match. Will Furman be able to win this written Feature Match to make up for his previous loss, or will Miotke be able to defeat one of the biggest names in the game? It’s time to Duel!

North America WCQ Round 7 Feature Match: Jason Patrick Zimmerman vs. Hani Yasser Jawhari

Welcome to Round 7! We’re at Table 23 where Jason Zimmerman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina and who qualified at a Charlotte Regional Qualifier has Trickstar Sky Strikers facing off against Hani Jawhari from Louisiana and his Gouki Deck. Jawhari qualified for the WCQ by topping YCS Dallas. Both Decks are well-represented in the North American WCQ but only one of these players will walk away with a win here. It’s time to Duel!

South America WCQ Round 9 Feature Match: Aksony Contreras vs Sebastian Caro

July 1st, 2018

Aksony Contreras is a Venezuelan Duelist, though he currently resides in Colombia. As such, he was able to become the newest Colombian National Champion! He’s one of the few SPYRAL Duelists in attendance. His opponent is Sebastian Caro, here from Chile, using Trickstars. Unlike most Duelists this weekend, Caro has opted to play a pure Trickstar build, rather than mixing it with other themes like Sky Strikers.

North America WCQ Round 6 Feature Match: Denny Yu vs. Ashik Najib

Denny Yu from Sacramento, California is Dueling against Ashik Najib from Atlanta, Georgia in this Round 6 Feature Match! Yu won a YCS in Las Vegas back in 2014, and now he’s looking for another championship win. He’s using a Gouki Sky Striker Deck this weekend, and now he’s facing off against Ashik Najib’s Trickstar Sky Striker Deck. Both Duelists are currently 4-1 and looking for a win in this round to maintain a record strong enough to have high hopes of a Top 64 finish. It’s time to Duel!
