Daniel LaMartina made it into the Top 16 of the YCS in Edison, Jersey with his Lightsworn Deck. Now he’s back, travelling from Rochester, New York, to compete in the World Championship Qualifier with Gladiator Beasts. His opponent, Barrett Keys, traveled here from Los Angeles and is competing with X-Sabers. You may remember Ira Jones from the SHONEN JUMP Championship in Edison, New Jersey. It was his first ever SHONEN JUMP Championship, and he made it to the Top 32 with his unique Gladiator Beast Deck running 2 copies of Honest and a bunch of other LIGHT monsters to work with them. Fili Luna is one of four Duelists here today who received a free trip to this event. Luna won the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series event at GenCon in 2009, his fourth Championship win over the years. But today, he’s facing a new challenge – winning a World Championship Qualifier and earning an invitation to compete in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG World Championship. Robbie Stargel’s Deck is an extension of the Caliber Cat Deck that Grant Kelly played at YCS Chicago. But instead of his entire X-Saber lineup being Airbellums and Darksouls, Stargel has decided to add XX-Saber Fulhelmknight to his team and leave out Doomcaliber Knight. After omitting Doomcaliber Knight from his line-up, Stargel decided to name his Deck “X-Caliber Cat,” noting Doomcaliber Knight’s absence. Read more…
Ryan Newburn is the last remaining competitor who competed in the 2009 Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG World Championship. He took 3rd place last year in the U.S. National Championship with his Lightsworn Deck, earning his invitation to the World Championship in Tokyo. Now, he’s competing for another chance to compete in the most prestigious Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG tournament of the year.
Newburn is playing X-Sabers today and will be facing Chris Arantes’s X-Saber Deck in this Feature Match. The winner of this Duel will advance to the Top 32 and be awarded a Dark End Dragon prize card, along with the potential to advance even further. The other Duelist, however, will be eliminated. Theerasak Poonsombat won the U.S. National Championship in 2005, and now he’s back competing for another shot at the World Championship. He drove for 30 hours to get here from California and won’t let anyone stand in his way. But his opponent, Alistar Albans flew in from Baltimore and will be facing off against Poonsombat’s X-Saber Deck with his Herald Deck this round. Both Duelists were 8-2 in the tournament heading into round 11, so a win here would guarantee one of these Duelists a spot in the Top 64. Read more…
