Surprising the expectations of many, Jon Moore won last year’s SHONEN JUMP Championship Houston with his Six Samurai Deck! He’s been full of surprises ever since. Moore has never been one to follow the herd, and while he’s playing a Twilight Deck in today’s tournament, his Deck is a textbook example of how a Duelist can put his own style and personality into any Deck he plays. Deck Profile: Jerry Wang’s Lightsworn Vayu Deck

October 17th, 2009

We saw Fili Luna in action with a Lightsworn Vayu Deck very similar to this one in our Round 1 Feature Match. But while Luna suffered a narrow defeat in that Match, 3-time SHONEN JUMP Championship winner Jerry Wang was undefeated when we last checked in with him! Here’s what Wang’s build looks like: Read more…

October 17th, 2009

A year and a half ago at SHONEN JUMP Championship Houston, Fabian Cantu shocked the Dueling world when he won a Feature Match against a Diamond Dude Turbo Deck with an amazing Deck and an amazing play. The Deck was Elemental Heroes, and the play was “Elemental Hero Mariner” for the win, after drawing the perfect two cards Cantu needed off of “Elemental Hero Bubbleman’s” effect.

Today Cantu is back, and playing the same type of Deck with some new additions. Elemental Heroes are in action, and Cantu’s got some new tricks up his sleeve! Read more…

Deck Profile: Kevin Alvarado’s Power Tool Dragon Deck

October 17th, 2009

Long-time Dueling fans may remember that last year at SHONEN JUMP Championship Houston, Kevin Alvarado played a DARK “Macro Cosmos” Deck with “Van’Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord.” This year he’s back, and once again packing an ambitiously innovative strategy – “Power Tool Dragon.”

This Deck is built around the “Black Salvo” / “Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive” combo, which lets Alvarado easily Synchro Summon Level 7 Synchro Monsters. Once Dekoichi is in the Graveyard, Alvarado can Special Summon it back to the field just by Normal Summoning “Black Salvo” – the same combo that Duelists like Adam Corn, Chris Evans, and Gaetan Georges took to Day 2 at SHONEN JUMP Championship Indianapolis. But while those Duelists used the combo to Synchro Summon “Dark Strike Fighter” or “Black Rose Dragon,” Alvarado uses it for a whole different purpose. Read more…

Deck Profile: Jake Johnson’s Swap Blackwings

October 17th, 2009

“Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor” was recently released in the Ancient Prophecy booster set, and was the big new star at the SHONEN JUMP Championship in Orlando last month.

There are lots of different ways to play “Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor.” Certain key cards are the same regardless of your strategy, so many Vayu Decks look similar, but it’s the differences between them, and the personal touches everyone puts on their Vayu Deck, that make the difference.

Take the Deck that Jake Johnson’s playing this weekend. At first glance, it looks a lot like the Deck that won Rodrigo Togores the SHONEN JUMP Championship in Orlando. But watch the Deck in action, and what appear to be a few small differences change the whole strategy. Instead of playing “Royal Oppression” to stop the opponent from Special Summoning big monsters, Johnson uses “Creature Swap” to take them over instead. And he’s running a lean and mean 40-card Deck to more reliably draw his key cards.
