Greg Cohen made a big splash in the main event yesterday, where he played his Kristya Draw Deck that we featured in a Deck Profile. Today he won the raffle to compete for a copy of “Dark End Dragon” in the Side Event Playoff, and now he’s won his way to the Finals. His opponent is repeated SHONEN JUMP Championship Day 2 Duelist Billy Brake, from Texas. While Cohen is playing Twilight in this competition, Brake is running Zombies. Read more…
Over 1600 Duelists have fallen one by one, and now only two remain! Michael Anderson is the last of a contingent of Duelists from Seattle, Washington who came to this tournament, while Stephen Silverman traveled here all the way from Philadelphia. After Twilight swept SHONEN JUMP Championship Columbus, both of these competitors are playing pure Lightsworn Decks – no Chaos Sorcerers and no Dark Armed Dragons! With both competitors playing hugely explosive Decks, this one is most certainly anybody’s game. Read more…
Once again, we were about to see what’s become a familiar matchup: Lightsworn versus Zombies! In the undead corner we have former U.S. National Champion and SHONEN JUMP Championship winner Adam Corn, and piloting Lightsworn we have three-time Day 2 competitor Stephen Silverman. Read more…
Eighteen year-old Michael Anderson is one of many Duelists this weekend that made the trip down from Seattle, Washington, and he’s one of 2 competitors playing pure Lightsworn in the Top 16. His opponent is Modesto, California’s own Hunter Morgan, a 16 year-old Duelist wielding Zombies that we saw in Feature Match action in Day 1. One of these competitors would move on to the Top 4, but for the other, this is the end of the line. Read more…
Rex Mendoza hails from San Diego and is playing Zombies with “Krebons” and “Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind” as his Tuners of choice. Mendoza’s Deck is packed with a lot of single cards, including “Tragoedia,” “Book of Life,” “Creature Swap,” “Return from the Different Dimension,” “Dust Tornado,” and “Gold Sarcophagus.” They’re fairly uncommon cards for most Zombie Decks this weekend, and they’ve made Mendoza an unpredictable force in this tournament.
That opponent is Omaha’s Oscar Olmedo, the only Duelist to make Top 16 here this weekend with Blackwings! Olmedo is playing all the usual suspects with 2 copies of “Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor.” He’s got a heavy lineup of 11 Trap Cards, complete with 2 “Royal Oppression” and a fully committed 3 copies of “Icarus Attack.” Olmedo’s also teched a single copy of “My Body As A Shield” and a “Mind Control,” too. “Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer,” “D.D. Crow,” and “Delta Crow – Anti Reverse” may prove to be the most useful cards in his Side Deck. Read more…
Jonathan Weigle is from Seattle and entered the SHONEN JUMP Championship with his Twilight Deck. Soo Yeem is the only Gladiator Beast Duelist in today’s Top 16. Will Gladiators advance even further? We’re about to find out. Read more…
Julian Wong came here from Vancouver. He’s running a Zombies/Lightsworn Deck that he’s been using at his local game store, Connection Games. Soo Yeem came here from San Diego and is one of the top Gladiator Beast Duelists left in the tournament. Both Duelists in this round are 9-1, so a win here would secure one of these Duelists a spot in the Top 16. Read more…
Both of these Duelists had 8-2 records heading into this, the final Swiss Round before the cut to Top 16, which meant it was up in the air whether either of them could make the playoffs. Hopes were running high, and both competitors were clearly about to give this Match their all! Read more…
A lot of competitors are taking inspiration this weekend from Vincent Ralambomiadana’s “French Twilight,” the Deck that won SHONEN JUMP Championship Columbus. Josh Coleman is one of them, but he’s putting a ton of new spins on the theme, adding cards like “Caius the Shadow Monarch,” “Pot of Avarice,” and a card so startling I took it upon myself to name the Deck after it. The name? “Treacherous Twilight.” The card? “Treacherous Trap Hole”! It makes perfect sense in a Deck too packed with Spells and monsters to run any other Traps.
His opponent is Calvin Yu. Hailing from Oakland, California, Yu is running Zombies with “Tragoedia” and “Krebons.” He’s packing some uncommon choices himself, including “Return from the Different Dimension” – a card that’s seen little play this weekend. Read more…
