Money Smith piloted his Six Samurai Deck to a better finish than any other Samurai Duelists in the tournament. His strategy? Swarm the field with Samurais and protect his aggression with his 3 Main Deck copies of Starlight Road. Smith made some Deck choices that were previously unheard of in Six Samurai Decks, like the exclusion of Great Shogun Shien from his Deck, but given his finishing 9-3 record in the tournament, these Deck choices may become integrated into basic Six Samurai strategy. Take a look at his Decklist: Read more…
Lightsworn Decks got hit pretty hard by the most recent Forbidden & Limited List, but Duelists everywhere are still determined to find a way to play Judgment Dragon and exploit its power. Patrick Clarey is one of those Duelists, and he finished 10-2 in the tournament. To replace the lost copies of Charge of the Light Brigade, Necro Gardna, and Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner, Clarey added a whole new engine to his Deck, which now plays Dandylion, Quickdraw Synchron, and Light and Darkness Dragon. If you’ve been with us all weekend, then you probably remember Tyler Nolan from his Round 3 Feature Match win in yesterday’s coverage. Nolan is playing an insightful and finely-tuned Black Garden Deck this weekend, halving his opponent’s ATK and then following up by walling up with high-DEF monsters like Gravekeeper’s Spy, Don Zaloog, and Volcanic Rocket. He uses the Garden’s ATK-halving effect and its Token Summoning effect to slow the pace of play to a crawl, then grinds down his opponent’s cards with Zaloog and Blaze Accelerator. Once his opponent can’t fight back, a series of small attacks ends the Duel. Read more…
While many Duelists today are running Dandylion, few are using it in a Deck like Stephen McGann is. Stephen McGann’s Plant Toolbox Deck uses Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon Tytannial, Princess of Camellias or other monsters from his Deck, and Koa’ki Meiru Gravirose to send Plaguespreader Zombie and Dandylion from his Deck to his Graveyard. Based on the situation, McGann can get most of his monsters exactly where he needs them. Read more…
Naveen Shankar won last year’s Dragon Duel tournament at the United States National Championship, winning the title of Dragon Duel Champion with Blackwings. Months later he’s thirteen years old – too old for Dragon Duel events – so he’s set his sights on the main event here at SHONEN JUMP Championship Edison. His Deck of choice? The same Deck that won him a trip to Jump Festa in Japan last December – Blackwings. Here’s his latest build: Read more…
Duelists frequently look to Necrovalley as a strong counter to the Graveyard-dependent Decks being used in tournaments. Josiah Miller’s Gravekeeper’s Deck relies on Necrovalley as more than just a counter to his opponent’s cards – it’s also a 500 ATK and DEF boost for his Gravekeeper’s monsters and turns on the effects of his Gravekeeper’s Assailant and Royal Tribute. Miller is running a dedicated Gravekeeper’s Deck in today’s tournament, which includes a low monster count and a ton of Spell and Trap Cards for support. Check out his list: Read more…
Kay Shim’s Monarch Deck is focused on Tribute Summoning the biggest monsters it can. With 9 monarchs and 2 copies of Light and Darkness Dragon in his Deck, Shim relies on starting each turn with a monster on his field. Fortunately, with Battle Fader, Dandylion, and Treeborn Frog in his Deck, keeping a monster out there is a breeze. Read more…
Ever since Roy St. Clair took 3rd place at SHONEN JUMP Championship Nashville with his X-Saber Deck, Duelists have been experimenting with X-Sabers and trying their hardest to bring them to the top. Chris Csikortos is one of those Duelists. Csikortos is using Gravekeeper’s Spy in his X-Saber Deck, because it gives him easy access to Arcanite Magician with all of his Level 3 X-Saber Tuners. His friend Jessy Samek is using an identical X-Saber Deck in today’s tournament. Csikortos is currently 3-0 in the tournament, giving X-Saber Duelists everywhere high hopes for their success. Take a look at Csikortos’s Decklist before The Shining Darkness revolutionizes the way X-Sabers are played. Read more…
Jake Mattern is one of many Duelists who ventured into today’s tournament with a Gladiator Beast Deck. Gladiator Beasts have a versatility that’s tough to match with any other Deck, making them a strong choice for the first SHONEN JUMP Championship of the format. No matter what Mattern goes up against, he knows that his Deck has everything it needs to come out on top thanks to the powers of his Gladiator Beast monsters. His friend, Juan Morales, is playing the same Deck as Mattern and entered the tournament with the same level of confidence in his Gladiators. Mattern built his Gladiator Beast Deck to include Elemental Hero Prisma, which fuels some of his most powerful plays by sending monsters from his Deck to his Graveyard. Read more…
