Thanks to the release of Absolute Powerforce, X-Sabers have finally made it to the top of a SHONEN JUMP Championship. Roy St. Clair took 3rd place in today’s competition, earning himself a “Dark End Dragon” prize card. Many of his opponents underestimated the power of “XX-Saber Emmersblade,” “XX-Saber Hyunlei,” and “Saber Hole,” allowing St. Clair to cruise through Day 1 and make to the top. Take a look at St. Clair’s list. Read more…

Dragon Decks are a big strategy to watch for when the new Forbidden & Limited list goes into effect on March 1. As restrictions on cards have hit several other Decks, Dragons increase in relative power as a result. For example, while the draw Spells “Destiny Draw” and “Allure of Darkness” each become Limited on March 1st, Dragons can still play 3 copies of “Trade-In” and the new “Cards of Consonance” from Absolute Powerforce, giving them more draw power than virtually any other Deck.
But March 1st is still two days off, and today one Duelist is betting it all on his Dragons! Richard Clarke played his unique Disaster Dragon Deck to respectable finishes at both the U.S. National Championship and SHONEN JUMP Championship Los Angeles, and today he’s back with a revamped build that he’s hoping will finally take him to the Top 16. Check it out! Read more…
Eric Wynn is running a Gravekeeper’s Deck in today’s tournament, featuring “Gravekeeper’s Visionary,” “Gravekeeper’s Descendant,” and “Gravekeeper’s Stele” from Absolute Powerforce. He’s counting on “Necrovalley” to bring him victory by shutting down opposing Decks. It’s a strong card in the current format, capable of negating the effects of popular monsters like “Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor,” “Mezuki,” and “Necro Gardna.” Wynn knows that most players have a heavy reliance on the Graveyard, and he’s hoping to take that away from them by using a Gravekeeper’s Deck in today’s tournament. Today, Brian Hayward is taking a page out of Rex Goodwin’s playbook and running one of the coolest Decks to debut in Absolute Powerforce! “Sun Dragon Inti” and “Moon Dragon Quilla” unite to create a never-ending cycle of hurt for the opponent, and today, Hayward is betting his life in this tournament on this beguiling new strategy. Here’s what his Deck looks like: Read more…
There are only 2 days left before the Forbidden & Limited Cards List changes on March 1, but players are still coming up with innovative ideas to get ahead of the competition using the current list. Jordan Hodges is here today playing a Blackwing Deck unlike any other. Hodges’s Ultimate Blackwing Deck can play out a Match just like any other Blackwing Deck, but it’s capable of so much more. With “Ultimate Offering” and “Black Whirlwind” on the field, Hodges can Summon one Blackwing after another to end the game in a single turn! Read more…
Of all the new Decks coming out of the woodwork this weekend, one of the biggest surprises may be LIGHT Machines. With new cards like “Cyber Eltanin”, Stardust Overdrive’s “Lord British Space Fighter,” and Absolute Powerforce’s “Cyber Dragon Zwei,” Machine Duelists just keep getting new ways to Summon huge, Duel-winning monsters. Since so many of them share the Machine Type and the LIGHT Attribute, building an aggressive Machine Deck isn’t that difficult. The real challenge is deciding precisely which combos you want to use. There are alot to pick from.
Kevin Moon is one of several Duelists here today playing LIGHT Machines, and he’s come up with a lot of creative ways to blow away the competition. Here’s what his version of the Deck looks like: Read more…
A lot of Decks got a big push from the new cards in Absolute Powerforce, and X-Sabers got one of the biggest. Three new X-Saber cards are really revving this Deck up:
- The new Synchro Monster “XX-Saber Hyunlei” can destroy up to 3 Spell & Trap Cards when she’s Summoned.
- “Saber Hole” negates any Summon when activated.
- “XX-Saber Emmersblade” Special Summons 1 Level 4 or lower X-Saber from your Deck when it’s destroyed by battle.
These cards set up big combos with cards that only X-Saber Duelists can play, and make X-Sabers way more powerful than they once were.
All that potential hasn’t gone unnoticed! Jon Moore, winner of SHONEN JUMP Championship Houston, experimented with X-Sabers heading into today’s tournament, trying all sorts of different ideas to create a winning Deck. Though he started with a build that was heavy on Lightsworn monsters, the final version of the Deck is more dedicated to X-Sabers, packing fifteen X-Saber monsters and no “Charge of the Light Brigade.” Read more…
