Round 5 Feature Match: Eric Gideon vs. Joshua Forbis

August 25th, 2018

Eric Gideon from Dallas, TX is the owner of the Official Tournament Store Epik Cards & Games in Dallas, TX. He hosts Yu-Gi-Oh! events regularly, including Regionals, now he’s here this weekend as a competitor, Dueling with one of the most interesting Decks we’ve seen this weekend! Gideon is using a Nekroz Deck that features a full 3 copies of Impcantation Talismandra and 3 copies of Impcantation Candoll, as well as 3 copies of Zaborg the Mega Monarch. Ideally, Gideon opens up with one of his Impcantations and uses its effect to Special Summon it along with the other Impcantation from his Deck. Then, by Tributing both of them for Zaborg the Mega Monarch, he can use Zaborg’s effect to have it destroy itself. By doing so, he can decimate his opponent’s Extra Deck by choosing 8 cards from it to send to the Graveyard. Plus, he can send 8 of his own cards from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. With PSY-Framelord Omega, Toadally Awesome, Elder Entity N’tss, and Herald of the Arc Light all in his Extra Deck, he’s able to gain a lot of awesome effects from them if he manages to pull off his Impcantation/Zaborg combo. In this Round 5 Feature Match, Gideon is Dueling against Joshua Forbis from St. Louis, Missouri. Forbis is using a Sky Striker Deck. Gideon and Forbis both have a 2-2 record and wish they were doing better; but with a total of 8 Swiss Rounds being played today, both are also far from eliminated. It’s time to Duel!

Alexander Simpson from Kansas City, Missouri is Dueling in his home town! He’s currently 2-0 in the tournament with his Danger! Deck featuring Infernoid and Burning Abyss monsters, and he’s Dueling against Cameron Neal from Dallas, Texas in this Round 3 Feature Match! Danger! cards were first introduced in Cybernetic Horizon, and although most Duelists immediately acknowledged their power, many Duelists have been struggling to fit them into the current competitive environment. By combining his Danger! cards with Infernoid and Burning Abyss monsters to create synergy among the three, Simpson believes he found a way to integrate the Danger! cards into the current tournament scene. Round 1 Feature Match: John Hakari vs. Avery Foster

August 25th, 2018

John Hakari from Lincoln, Nebraska had 130 UDS points, and entered this weekend’s tournament without a BYE. Avery Foster from San Antonio, Texas had over 200 points and could’ve entered the tournament with a BYE, but he said he decided to enter without the BYE because he REALLY likes Yu-Gi-Oh! and wanted to play Round 1. His desire to Duel also allowed him to save 100 UDS points to use at a future Ultimate Duelist Series Invitational. Foster is using a tried-and-true Gouki Deck that can Extra Link on the very first turn, while Hakari is using a Naturia Deck that hasn’t been seen on the tournament circuit. Making it even more interesting, Hakari isn’t using the most popular Naturia monster – Naturia Beast – and instead uses Domain of the True Monarchs with no Extra Deck. Hakari’s Deck aims to Tribute a Naturia monster to Summon Naturia Bamboo Shoot as quickly as possible, preventing his opponent from using Spell or Trap Cards. He then combines it with Domain of the True Monarchs, preventing his opponent from accessing the Extra Deck and creating a virtual lock on his victory. Hakari’s 3 copies of Card Advance and 3 copies Double Summon help him to maximize his odds of starting the Duel with Naturia Bamboo Shoot and Domain of the True Monarchs on his field. Hakari’s Deck is one of the coolest in the tournament, but does it have what it takes to overcome the power of Goukis? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!
