Round 10 Feature Match: Charlie Finnegan versus Brandon Sprint

February 1st, 2015

Charlie Finnegan from Fayetteville, North Carolina and Brandon Sprint from Richmond, Virginia are both YCS first-timers, and both of them have fared well in this weekend’s tournament. Each of these Duelists currently has a 7-2 record. Brandon Sprint is using a Shaddoll Deck featuring Denko Sekka, while Charlie Finnegan is using a creation of his own – a Tellarknight Artifact Deck that he calls “Scythe Knights.” Finnegan’s core strategy involves using the effect of Artifact Scythe each turn to prevent his opponents from Special Summoning from their Extra Deck, while applying pressure on his opponents by using his Tellarknights. Only one of these Duelists will be able to complete the Swiss Rounds with an 8-2 record and a shot at a Top 32 finish. It’s time to Duel!

Round 9 Feature Match: Demonte Cole versus Max Lewis

February 1st, 2015

Atlanta, Georgia’s Demonte Cole is currently 6-2 with his Infernity Deck – a Deck that many Duelists have been counting out since Infernity Archfiend became Limited when the January 1st, 2015 Forbidden & Limited List took effect. Cole is here to prove that Infernities can still be a powerful force on the tournament scene. Now, 13-year-old Duelist Max Lewis from Tallahassee, Florida stands in Cole’s way. Lewis has a 6-2 record like Cole, but used a more conventional Tellarknight Deck to obtain that record. Round 10 Feature Match: Aaron Furman versus Melvin Torres Jr.

February 1st, 2015

Aaron Furman has attended just about every recent YCS I can remember, and is really started to gain some momentum as a Duelist. He is using a Satellarknight variant very similar to what we saw Jeff Jones use in yesterday’s Feature Match, teching cards like Enemy Controller, Mind Crush, and Threatening Roar to take advantage of current format trends. His opponent is Melvin Torres Jr., a Floridian native who has chosen Burning Abyss to battle with this weekend; he is also on the Mask Change 2 train, trying to use Masked HERO Dark Law to the best of its ability.

Furman is sitting on 21 points, a 7-2 record, while Torres has 22, an 7-1-1 record, so this match will decide who makes it into Top 32.

Furman won the roll and chose to go first.

However, his path won’t be that easy, as his opponent this Round is Southern California’s Jonathon Gomez, someone who is no stranger from the Feature Match Area. He is Dueling today with Burning Abyss playing a Main Deck Copy of Hidden Armory to search Snatch Steal, with additional in his Side Deck in order to access a copy of Magnum Shield! February 1st, 2015

Richard Cherry has come all the way to Charleston from the U.K., piloting a Qliphort Deck with an unscathed record. There’s no shame in Dueling with one of the best Decks if he’s on top of the standings with it; however, Sohrab Pasikhani has the same record as Cherry with a Volcanic Deck! A sleeper pick for this weekend, Volcanic has made an impressive showing thanks to the addition of Blaze Accelerator Reload from Secrets of Eternity. Is that enough for us to see Pasikhani continue his success?

February 1st, 2015

George Gaetan has made the trip here from New York this weekend, playing one of the less popular Decks: Shaddoll Artifact. The recent limitation of Artifact Moralltach has hit the strategy pretty bad, but Georges is trying to make it work with the addition of Mask Change II. Owens on the other hand is running a Satellarknight Deck, focusing on consistency over any flair in tech.

Georges won the roll and told Owens to go first
