Feature Match: Dragon Duel Finals

This was Table 1 of the Sunday Dragon Duel! Nine year-old Lance Bradshaw was piloting X-Sabers, while his opponent, twelve year-old Tristan Juhasz, played Frog Monarchs. Feature Match: Public Event Play-Off Finals

These two competitors had Dueled their way into the Public Event Playoffs this weekend, getting into the Top 4 by earning the highest number of points in Public Events over the course of the weekend. And we saw both of them in Feature Match action yesterday! Brandon Miotke is back playing X-Sabers, and Jordan Grant is once again playing his Frog Monarchs with Obelisk the Tormentor. Final Round Feature Match: Matt Hoey vs. Anthony Meier

One year ago today, Matt Hoey sat in this very hall to compete in the Finals of SHONEN JUMP Championship Indianapolis against Fili Luna. Luna defeated him with Blackwings to take his fourth SHONEN JUMP Championship win, and Hoey was left in second place. Now he’s back with X-Sabers and an undefeated record in this tournament. Today, Hoey hopes to make up for his past loss.

But his opponent won’t make that easy. Anthony Meier is playing an anti-meta Deck jam-packed with cards selected just to beat X-Sabers. Doomcaliber Knight, Thunder King Rai-Oh, Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo, and more are going to make this a very long (or perhaps very short) Match. Read more…

Top 4 Feature Match: Anthony Meier vs. Jehanzab Siddiqui

There are two anti-meta Decks here in Day 2, and both competitors made it to the Top 4. We saw Anthony Meier and Jehanzab Siddiqui Duel it out yesterday in our Round 8 Feature Match. Top 8 Feature Match: Juan Carlos Flores vs. Athony Meier

Juan Carlos Flores was the only Infernity Duelist to make the Top 16, and now he’s competing here in the Top 8. Flores’ key weapon of choice was triple Threatening Roar, but it may not be nearly as useful against Anthony Meier’s slower-paced Deck. Meier is running a powerful, grinding anti-meta Deck. Top 16 Feature Match: Desmond Boyd vs. Christopher Krause

Both Desmond Boyd and Christopher Krause are playing X-Sabers, but each Duelist won their way to the Top 16 by putting a different spin on the Deck. Desmond Boyd has a strong defense combined with the power to search out Rescue Cat. Krause, on the other hand, plays with a little more speed and an added dose of disruption. Round 9 Feature Match: Daniel Farina vs. Danny Rose

Seated here with 7-1 records, and just one win away from a seat in the Top 16, this Battle of the Dans has both playing X-Sabers! We’ve seen a variety of Decks in our Feature Matches so far today, but as the Swiss Rounds finish out we’ll now see one of the defining matchups of the past three months: the X-Saber mirror Match. Round 8 Feature Match: Jehanzab Siddiqui vs. Athony Meier

Both of these competitors are undefeated, seated at Table 1. The twist? Both Duelists are playing extremely similar Decks: an anti-meta Beatdown strategy with Doomcaliber Knight, Thunder King Rai-Oh, Banisher of the Radiance, and King Tiger Wanghu, backed up by a variety of simple removal Spells and Traps. Heading into Round 6, Brenden Beckmann is undefeated with his Gravekeeper Deck. His opponent is X-Saber Duelist Rob Cedar.  Beckmann runs Doomcaliber Knight and Thunder King Rai-Oh, and they may give him an edge against Cedar’s X-Sabers. Read more…

Round 5 Feature Match: Patrick Achramovitch vs. Chris Martinez

Patrick Achramovitch traveled here this weekend from Buffalo, New York, and is here running his Skill Drain Zombie Deck. His opponent is Chris Martinez of San Antonio, Texas. This is going to be a tough Match for Achramovitch, because Martinez is playing Blackwings – a difficult matchup for Zombies, which has trouble with the Blackwing Deck’s Royal Oppression in particular.
