Top 8 Feature Match: Juan Carlos Flores vs. Athony Meier

Juan Carlos Flores was the only Infernity Duelist to make the Top 16, and now he’s competing here in the Top 8. Flores’ key weapon of choice was triple Threatening Roar, but it may not be nearly as useful against Anthony Meier’s slower-paced Deck. Meier is running a powerful, grinding anti-meta Deck. Anthony Meier wins YCS GenCon!

Anthony Meier has pilot his anti-meta Deck to victory at the GenCon Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship series, defeating Matt Hoey’s X-Sabers in the final round.

Chris Schwarz’s frog OTK Deck placed 3rd, and Jehanzab Siddiqui’s anti-meta Deck was 4th.

QQ: Favorite Underrated Deck

There’s just a few weeks left before the Advanced Format Forbidden & Limited Cards list changes on September 1st, and a number of ambitious Duelists were straying from the beaten path this weekend. While many competitors ran X-Saber, Infernity, Gladiator Beast, Blackwing, or Frog Monarch Decks, lots of attendees in today’s tournament played something else, trying to innovate to defeat the popular strategies. Top 16 Feature Match: Desmond Boyd vs. Christopher Krause

Both Desmond Boyd and Christopher Krause are playing X-Sabers, but each Duelist won their way to the Top 16 by putting a different spin on the Deck. Desmond Boyd has a strong defense combined with the power to search out Rescue Cat. Krause, on the other hand, plays with a little more speed and an added dose of disruption. We’ve seen a variety of Decks in our Feature Matches so far today, but as the Swiss Rounds finish out we’ll now see one of the defining matchups of the past three months: the X-Saber mirror Match.
