Top 4 Feature Match: Ronald Mack vs. Sean McCabe

Six friends from Philadelphia traveled here this weekend to run the Gravekeeper Deck they developed together for this event. Of the six, 4 made the Top 32, and 3 have made the Top 4. Three Gravekeeper Decks and 1 X-Saber Deck are all that’s left in this tournament, and now, friends Sean McCabe and Ronald Mack must play a Gravekeeper Mirror Match. Top 8 Feature Match: Da Lee vs. Frazier Smith

Frazier Smith, Sean McCabe, and Ronald Mack all worked together to develop the Deck they’re playing today: Gravekeepers. Gravekeeper’s Recruiter has revolutionized Gravekeepers and catapulted them to the forefront of this tournament.

But Smith’s opponent, Da Lee, gave us one of the most impressive Matches of Day 1, making some impressively skilled plays with a Deck that many often underestimate: Lightsworn. This is Lee’s third trip to the playoff rounds at a Championship-level tournament, and that level of experience may carry him all the way to the Top. For now, 8 Duelists remain. Top 8 Feature Match: Chase Simpson vs. Brandon Wigley

Brandon Wigley and Chase Simpson made it to the Top 8 playing X-Sabers and Blackwings respectively. The matchup between these 2 Decks has become a defining one in the format. At YCS Mexico, the final Match, as well as the 3rd place Match, was a battle between X-Sabers and Blackwings, with X-Sabers triumphing both times. Top 16 Feature Match: Michael Guzman vs. Adrew Jeffries

Both of these Duelists had won their earlier Feature Matches this morning, and now they were Dueling head-to-head, in a Match that would decide a seat in the Top 8! Michael Guzman is playing Volcanic Quickdraw, while Adrew Jeffries is running Machina Gadgets.  Both competitors were clearly very happy to have made it so far in this tournament. Read more…

Top 16 Feature Match: Brian Jones vs. Ronald Mack

Ronald Mack hasn’t yet lost a Match this weekend, winning the last 11 rounds with his Gravekeeper’s Deck! His opponent, Brian Jones, is looking to change that with his Blackwing Deck. The winner here will advance to the Top 8, and with the rising popularity of Gravekeeper’s and ever-prevalent Blackwing presence on the tournament scene, this matchup is sure to be a common one in future tournaments. Entering the Quarterfinals, 8 Duelists remain in the tournament, representing 6 different Decks. Plant Synchro’s representation has dropped from 5 (in the Top 16) to just 1 left. But all 3 Gravekeeper Decks are still in it!

Top 32 Feature Match: Travis Hilliard vs. Adrew Jeffries

We’ve seen a huge variety of matchups so far over the course of the weekend, but this is one of the few we haven’t seen in a Feature Match up until now: Travis Hilliard is playing Plant Synchro, while Adrew Jeffries is piloting Machina Gadgets. Royal Oppression could play a big role in this Match. Hilliard plays even more Special Summon cards than most Duelists, including multiple copies of Limit Reverse. But if Jeffries doesn’t draw Royal Oppression, he could be in trouble. Read more…

Top 32 Feature Match: Christian Lewis vs. Chase Simpson

Chase Simpson finished the Swiss rounds with a 9-1 record using his Blackwings Deck. His opponent, Christian Lewis, finished with an 8-2 record, also using Blackwings. Both Duelists lost a mirror-Match in the Swiss rounds, so they’re both are looking to redeem themselves from their earlier loss by advancing to the Top 16. Read more…

TRADING CARD GAME Legendary Collection and Structure Deck: Marik, the upcoming Duelist Pack: Yusei 3, the current release of 5Ds Synchro Monsters in Starstrike Blast, and the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D Movie, lots of Duelists are talking about the three Yu-Gi-Oh! television series.
