Yesterday, Zackery Biscardi’s Gravekeeper Deck was one of the first Decks we were immediately drawn to for a Deck Profile. Today, he’s standing at the cusp of the Top 32, with a shot at qualifying for the playoff rounds with an 8-2 finishing record. His opponent is Jonathan Weigle, an X-Saber Duelist. Since Biscardi plays Royal Decree, Weigle’s best chance in this matchup is going to be smart use of Black Rose Dragon and XX-Saber Hyunlei. Read more…
Brian Jones, from Florida, and James Quick from North Carolina are currently 7-2 with their Blackwing Decks, so a win here will give one of these Duelists a shot at a Top 32 finish. But with a Blackwing mirror-Match about to start, it’s anyone’s game. Read more…
Heading into Round 9, Table 1 was held by Gravekeeper Duelist Ronald Mack set to take on Volcanic Quickdraw Duelist Michael Guzman. Both of these competitors are undefeated, but this matchup seems solidly in Mack’s favor. Necrovalley can stop some of Guzman’s most important effects from working properly, and that could hinder his performance here. Read more…
Dorian Foster and Sushant Bhardwaj are both 7-1 in the tournament, so a win here will put one of these Duelists in great position for Top 32. But Bhardwaj’s Gravekeepers won’t make it easy for Foster’s Infernities. With Necrovalley capable of shutting down the effects of Foster’s most important cards, Foster has a tough road ahead of him. Twelve year-old Fisher Taylor traveled here this weekend from Albany, and has made it to Table 1 in the last round of the Saturday Dragon Duel with his Diva Zombies Deck! Ronald Mack from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Evan Towler from Redford, Michigan are currently undefeated in the tournament. Ronald Mack made it here with a Gravekeeper’s Deck, greatly bolstered by the addition of Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from Starstrike Blast. His opponent, Evan Towler, is running Plant Synchro. Mack’s Necrovalley may make this a tough Match for Towler, since it can shut down Towler’s key cards like Debris Dragon and Pot of Avarice. Read more…
Kevin Silva is 6-1 here, heading into the last round of Day 1. He’s here this weekend reprising his performance from YCS San Jose, and is back once again, playing a Dimensional Eatos Deck. His tech this time around? A pair of Karakuri Ninja mdl 339 “Sazank”. His opponent is repeated Day 2 finisher Da Lee. One of the new Decks that’s emerged thanks to Starstrike Blast has sailed a bit under the radar today – until now. Jake Mattern is 6-1 so far with Formula Monarchs, a Deck that combines Treeborn Frog and Fishborg Blaster to unleash devious Synchro Summons, and to Tribute Summon Monarchs and Light and Darkness Dragon. It’s a bit ahead of its time, because it gets even better with the release of Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier in Hidden Arsenal 3. But it’s worked pretty well for Mattern so far, and could take him to Day 2.
His opponent is Milton T. Perry, an Anti-Meta Beatdown Duelist armed with a number of solutions to Mattern’s biggest plays. Banisher of the Radiance could cause problems for Treeborn Frog and Fishborg; lots of Spell Speed 2 monster destruction could mean bad things for Light and Darkness Dragon; and a steady stream of big attackers could see Perry clinch a win before Mattern even gets set up. Perry’s effectively racing against the clock, trying to take Mattern down before his strategy comes together. How would it play out? Read on! Read more…
