Here are the top 4 Duelists from Sunday’s Dragon Duel (in no particular order): John Vien, Johan Aparicio, Joshua Roberts, and Tommy Ho. Congratulations to Sunday’s top players!

Each of these Duelists received a Regional Qualifier Game Mat, featuring the 3 Aesir from Storm of Ragnarok, plus a Dragon Duel Finalist T-Shirt and an invitation to the 2011 Dragon Duel Championship this Summer.

Sunday Dragon Duel Feature Match: Heroic Johan Aparicio vs. Honorable Joshua Roberts

Johan Aparicio and Joshua Roberts are both rising 12-year-old Duelists from Los Angeles. They frequently Duel at the same local tournament, and now they’re facing off at Table 1 in this final Dragon Duel Feature Match of the weekend. The Deck List Dilemma (Or: How to avoid giving your opponent a free win.)

As we were waiting for the completion of the Top 16 Deck Checks for the main event YCS tournament, it seemed like a good time to reflect on an unfortunately common problem this weekend: Deck list errors.

Do not let this happen to you!

Over 150 Duelists had a problem at this event because their Deck list was unclear or just plain wrong. A whopping 119 Deck lists required clarification because the list was not written correctly, like missing numbers of cards played or incomplete card names.

A total of 60 penalties had to be issued for Deck list related penalties. And 23 of those were simple mathematical errors, like missing cards in a Duelist’s listed Extra Deck, or the wrong number of cards played in multiples. These things are easy to fix so you can avoid this happening to you.

Angel Flores wins YCS Anaheim 2011!

Angel Flores has won his second YCS event – both of them in California! Flores successfully used his Elemental Hero / LIGHT Gemini Deck to make it all the way to the finals and claim his prize. Congratulations to the latest 2-time YCS Champion!

Flores has won a prize packaging including a set of Ultra Rare YCS Darklord prize cards. Jonathan Weigle, won took 2nd place with his Gravekeeper Deck, and Majid Khan, who placed 3rd with Chaos, will each take home a set of Super Rare versions of these cards.

Top 4 Feature Match: Chaotic Majid Khan vs. Tombkeeper Jonathan Weigle

Majid Khan is facing off against Jonathan Weigle in our Top 4 Feature Match that pits Gravekeepers against Khan’s Black Salvo Chaos Deck. Weigle’s Necrovalley and its ability to prevent Khan from targeting the Graveyard or removing cards from there may make this a tough for the Salvo Chaos Duelist, but if Khan draws enough cards that destroy Necrovalley, he may easily be able to turn the tides. Top 4 Feature Match: Commander Billy Brake vs. Angel Flores, Dualist

Once again, Billy Brake had made it to the Top 4 – a repeat of his performance just 3 weeks ago at YCS Charlotte. Brake has been to the Top 32 tables of Championship-level tournaments countless times, but he’s never captured a Championship win. His opponent this round has. Angel Flores, winner of last year’s YCS in San Jose! Brake is running X-Sabers, while Flores is playing a his Elemental Hero / Gemini Deck, with a heavy anti-monster focus designed to take apart Decks like the one Brake’s running. Read more…
