Sunday Dragon Duel: Brian Ahle vs. Vinnie Silverman

August 7th, 2011

The YCS main event is over, but there’s one last Round left in the Sunday Dragon Duel! Vinnie Silverman scored a close victory to go undefeated in yesterday’s Dragon Duel, but now he’s up against a different opponent: fellow Dragon Duel winner Brian Ahle. Both of these young competitors have been Feature Matched before, but they’ve never squared off in a tournament Match. This’ll be the first time we’ve seen these two rising stars go head-to-head: Silverman with Gravekeepers, and Ahle with Tech Genus. Read more…

Final Round Feature Match: Robert Boyajian vs. Joseph Franzo

August 7th, 2011

Only two Duelists remained in this tournament, and they were both playing similar Synchro-based Decks! Joseph Franzo and Robert Boyajian drove here together from Missourri. “We used to know each other, we met in California,” explained Boyajian. “Me and a friend flew here from California just to visit this guy!” This Match would pit two friends with very similar Decks against each other. One would go home a Champion. Read more…

Deck Profile: Augustin Herrera’s Anti-Monster Beast Deck

August 7th, 2011

What looked like one of the most promising Decks of Day 1 actually didn’t make it to Day 2. In Round 3, we showed you Augustin Herrera claiming victory with his Anti-Monster Beast Deck. Three Rounds later in Round 6, Jehanzab Siddiqui defeated Robbie Kohl in another Feature Match, with the same strategy. But neither Duelist – nor any of the other competitors playing Anti-Monster Beasts, of which there were several – would make the Top 16 cut after the Swiss Rounds were said and done.

That’s a shame, because this strategy was really impressive both times we saw it in action. Tapping into the massive popularity of Horn of the Phantom Beast, this strategy both outplayed Horn, and took advantage of Horn itself, making clever use of some old school Beast monsters. Combined with new school tech like Forbidden Lance and Reborn Tengu, it’s got a ton of potential. Here’s what Herrera’s version looked like yesterday… Read more…

Top 4 Feature Match: Robert Boyajian vs. Justin Delhon

August 7th, 2011

Four Decks were left in this tournament: Gadgets, Gravekeepers, and two Synchro Decks. Here, we’d see Justin Delhon take his Gadget Deck against Robert Boyajian’s Synchros. It was totally possible that the Finals could be a Synchro mirror Match. It was also possible that Synchros might not make the Finals at all. Let’s see what happens! Read more…

Turbo Pack 6’s Debut

August 7th, 2011

YCS Indianapolis wasn’t just the debut of new Decks and a new YCS Prize Card. It was also the first-ever chance for Duelists get their hands on packs of the brand new Turbo Pack 6! Competitors in the Public Events were able to earn boosters of this newest Turbo Park starting Thursday, and if you’ve never been around for this kind of release, it’s a heck of a show.

When those first packs go out, and new cards start getting revealed booster by booster, the energy in the air is electric. We can’t quite replicate that experience for you at home, but we CAN show you all 21 cards in the new set! Here’s what the Duelists this weekend are playing for, and here’s what you’ll find at the Konami Official Tournament Store in your neighborhood as early as next weekend. Read more…

Deck Profile: Luis Zambrana’s Malefic Skill Drain Deck

August 7th, 2011

We saw Luis Zambrana’s Malefic Drain Deck score a narrow win over Christopher Krause in our Round 7 Feature Match yesterday, and Zambrana wound up making such a strong finish that he won his way to the Top 16 today. He was one of two competitors to take Malefic Drain all the way to Day 2. The other Duelist was the only undefeated 9-0 record-holder in the Swiss Rounds here at YCS Indianapolis: Conrad Selig. While their strategies are similar, there are some big differences between their two builds, so be sure to check out Selig’s version as well. For now, let’s take a peek at the Deck we saw in action yesterday: Read more…
