The YCS main event is over, but there’s one last Round left in the Sunday Dragon Duel! Vinnie Silverman scored a close victory to go undefeated in yesterday’s Dragon Duel, but now he’s up against a different opponent: fellow Dragon Duel winner Brian Ahle. Both of these young competitors have been Feature Matched before, but they’ve never squared off in a tournament Match. This’ll be the first time we’ve seen these two rising stars go head-to-head: Silverman with Gravekeepers, and Ahle with Tech Genus. Read more…
From a field of 483 Duelists, Robert Boyajian has emerged as the winner of the 2011 Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series at Gen Con in Indianapolis, Indiana. Congratulations to the latest YCS Champion!

Only two Duelists remained in this tournament, and they were both playing similar Synchro-based Decks! Joseph Franzo and Robert Boyajian drove here together from Missourri. “We used to know each other, we met in California,” explained Boyajian. “Me and a friend flew here from California just to visit this guy!” This Match would pit two friends with very similar Decks against each other. One would go home a Champion. Read more…
Four Decks were left in this tournament: Gadgets, Gravekeepers, and two Synchro Decks. Here, we’d see Justin Delhon take his Gadget Deck against Robert Boyajian’s Synchros. It was totally possible that the Finals could be a Synchro mirror Match. It was also possible that Synchros might not make the Finals at all. Let’s see what happens! Read more…
Eight Duelists were left in this tournament, and in this Match we’d see Marcus Paternoster take his Hyperion Deck against Dalton Bousman’s Gravekeepers. Each Duelist was the last of their breed left: there were no other Hyperion or Gravekeeper Decks in the Top 8. This was a tough matchup for Paternoster, since Necrovalley could keep him from using some of his best effects. Read more…
Conrad Selig shattered predictions for the field yesterday, sweeping nine opponents in a row to become the only undefeated Duelist in Day 1. His Deck of choice? An unprecedented build of “Malefic Drain”: a Deck that combines big Normal Summons with Malefic monsters and Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon to bruteforce its way through the opponent’s defenses. Two Malefic Drain Decks made it to the Top 16, but both are vastly different: Selig’s runs Trade-In and Upstart Goblin, with six Malefic monsters. The build is fast, consistent, and reliable.
His opponent is Synchro Duelist Grant Kelly, who we saw win a previous Feature Match yesterday. Kelly and Selig are actually long-time friends: they’re the only two local players from Indianapolis that made the Top 16 cut. The stakes were high, but the mood was friendly and light-hearted. It was time to kick off Day 2! Read more…
These two Duelists were undefeated here in the final round of the Saturday Dragon Duel! Both competitors are twelve years old. Vinnie Silverman is playing Gravekeepers, while Chris Moroch is running Six Samurai. Moroch is actually the cousin of YCS Champion Sean Coovert, who won his Championship with the same Deck. This is a classic matchup, played by two of the most skilled young Duelists in North America! Let’s Duel! Read more…
Both of these competitors are 6-1 here in today’s Swiss Rounds. All 9 Swiss Rounds in this tournament will be played today, and we are in Round 8. A win in this Match, followed by a win next round, would mean a guaranteed spot in the Top 16. The defeated Duelist would need to win the next round and have amazing tiebreakers to have a shot. Steven Sandler is playing Worms, while Grant Kelly is running Tour Guide / Tengu Synchro. Read more…
Here in Round 7, we’ll see Tech Genus Duelist Christopher Krause Duel Luis Zambrana. Zambrana’s Deck runs Malefic Cyber End Dragon and Beast King Barbaros, comboing with Skill Drain. He also plays Geartown and Necrovalley. He even runs Safe Zone, instead of Solemn Warning. It’s one of the more unique Decks in today’s field, and now we’re going to see it put to the test. Both of these competitors are undefeated with 6-0 records. Read more…
Things are humming along so smoothly that all 9 Swiss Pair rounds will be completed today, leaving only the play-off rounds for Sunday. After 6 rounds we have 168 Duelists remaining, with 2/3 of the field having dropped to go do other things as this exciting convention. At this point 7 Duelists remain undefeated. Read more…
