Round 4 Feature Match: William Presser vs. Alex Vansant

August 6th, 2011

Ten weeks ago at YCS Orlando, Alex Vansant made the Top 32 with an aggressive Gadget Deck featuring Ultimate Offering. His strategy in that tournament centered on combining a flood of Gadgets with a flood of Level 1 Tuners, kicking out Synchro after Synchro without emptying his hand. But today that strategy takes on a new dimension! The debut of Number 39: Utopia takes the Deck to a totally different level. Now, Vansant can use his Gadget / Ultimate Offering combo to unleash an army of attack-negating 2500 Xyz Monsters!

His opponent is William Presser, a Plant Synchro Duelist with a deadly Side Deck. Presser’s Side lets him move from a Synchro-driven strategy to something completely different: Anti-Monster. He may be at a bit of a disadvantage in the first Duel, but with the right Side Deck decisions he could really catch Vansant off-guard. Read more…

Round 3 Feature Match: Augustin Herrera vs. Sean Turner

August 6th, 2011

After dominating the North American World Championship Qualifier just weeks ago, Horn of the Phantom Beast is one of the hottest cards here in Indianapolis. We already showed you Johnny Nagel playing it in Crystal Beasts. Now, we’ll see the undefeated Augustin Herrera play it in a Beast-ly version of an Anti-Monster strategy. Herrera combos Horn with cards like Pitch-Black Warwolf and King Tiger Wanghu, wielding powerful control effects.

His opponent is Sean Turner, traveling here to Indy from New Jersey to compete with a Master Hyperion Deck. Packing The Agent of Creation – Venus, Turner’s Deck wields all sorts of cool Special Summon tricks that could help him overwhelm Herrera’s defensive plays. The key to victory here will likely be a matter of time. if Turner can stabilize the Duel, he can put together big plays to overcome Herrera. But if Herrera controls stuff early and plays aggressively, he can knock Turner off balance and shatter his combos. Read more…

You may remember Thomas from previous Deck Profile in 2009, where he played a strategy that also revolved around Kinka-byo (http.//yugiohblog.konami.com/?p=1037).

His opponent hails from Jackson, North Carolina. Matthew Lenihan is a Gravekeeper Duelist, which may give Thomas some problems. Without access to his Graveyard, Thomas might have some trouble. Lenihan can shut down his Chaos Sorcerers and his Kinka-byo tricks with Necrovalley alone. Read more…
