Tech Update: Splashable Suites

September 18th, 2011

Usually when we talk about tech choices that are appearing in a wide variety of Decks, we’re usually talking about single cards.  But one of the cool things that makes YCS Toronto stand out from previous events, is that we’re actually seeing entire suites of cards being played across a number of different strategies.  The result is an impact far greater than single cards could achieve alone, and deeper, more influential trends that have shaped this tournament from the ground up.  Let’s discuss some of the most popular suites that we’ve seen this weekend, and let’s start with the biggest!

Round 9 Feature Match: Jordan Kehler VS Thomas Morran

September 18th, 2011

We’ve seen a ton of different strategies so far this weekend, but Thomas Morran is piloting a Deck we haven’t seen in Feature Match action yet: Destiny Hero Diva!  A new incarnation of the Diamond Dude Turbo strategy, this Deck aims to use Destiny HERO – Diamond Dude and Destiny HERO – Malicious in combination with Deep Sea Diva, unleashing big Synchro Monsters and Elemental HERO Absolute Zero.  Morran’s opponent is Jordan Kehler, one of several Tech Genus Agents Duelists still left in the tournament.  Kehler’s Deck is super-fast, and really good at managing the Graveyard.  It plays Kristya really easily, and that could be a huge factor against Morran’s Special Summons.

Justin Delhon and Billy Brake are both 5-1 in the tournament and were paired up against each other for this Round 7 Feature Match. Justin Delhon is running a Gadget Deck that makes optimal use of new Xyz Monsters like Number 39: Utopia and Steelswarm Roach. Billy Brake is running a Synchro Summon Deck which, although weakened by the September 1st Forbidden & Limited List, is still a strong contender in the tournament. The winner of this Match will be guaranteed to make it to Day 2, so both of these Duelists will be giving it their all! Read more…
