Saturday’s Dragon Duel: Nicole Tipple VS Charlie Bingham

12-year-old Nicole Tipple traveled here from New Jersey to participate in today’s Dragon Duel with her Twilight Deck. This is her first ever YCS event, and at the end of 6 Rounds of Dragon Dueling, she is the only undefeated Duelist remaining in the tournament! 10-year-old Charlie Bingham is also a YCS first-timer, and is currently 4-1 with his Dragunity Deck. He was paired up against Tipple in this final round of the tournament. It won’t be easy, but Bingham will need to end Tipple’s winning streak if he hopes to make it to the Top 4 of the tournament.

QQ: Your Most-Feared Matchup!

QQ stands for Quick Questions! With no previous tournaments to key off of in this brand new Advanced Format, it’s anybody’s guess as to what you could play here at YCS Toronto. There are a few Decks that you’re likely to Duel against, but apart from the obvious suspects like Agents, everything is totally up in the air. Round 7 Feature Match: Varun Dewan VS Ryan Low

Varun Dewan is 5-1 here in Round 7, and may be the highest-ranked Fabled Duelist in the tournament.  His opponent is Ryan Low, an Agent Duelist playing a build keyed towards Synchro Summoning.  This Match pits an unusual and often misunderstood strategy against the popular Agents. Which one will come out on top?

Deck Profile: Jason Larabee’s Infernity Deck

No two Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series tournaments are alike: formats are different, trends change at the drop of a dime, and in many cases, the Dueling landscape of the hosting city itself shapes the tournament.  Here in Toronto we are in Kalin Kessler country: Infernities may be more popular here in Toronto than anywhere else, thanks to big Championship wins in the hands of Torontonian Duelists last year.  While Infernities fell off the competitive map many months ago, the new September 1st Advanced List has opened the gates once again, and Duelists like Jason Larabee are capitalizing on one of the biggest new tournament powerhouses to take the strategy to new heights.

Round 5 Feature Match: Jason Larabee VS Ryan Muttaqi

Jason Larabee entered today’s YCS with a complex Infernity Deck that loops Summons with Leviair the Sea Dragon and is capable of Summoning Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier multiple times in a single turn. Larabee’s Round 5 opponent, Ryan Muttaqi, is using Gladiator Beasts. Gladiator Beasts typically give Infernity Decks a tough time, since Gladiator Beast Retiari has the ability to banish key combo cards from the Infernity Duelist’s Graveyard; but Larabee’s new Infernity tricks may be enough to help him triumph in this difficult Matchup. Round 5 Top Table Update

This tournament will consist of 10 Swiss Rounds of competition, cutting to a Top 32.  From there, the remaining Duelists will compete in 5 more Rounds of playoff Dueling before a winner is declared.  Today we’ll see 8 of the 10 Swiss Rounds play out, with the remaining 2 Swiss Rounds tomorrow.  That means that here in Round 5, we are halfway through Day 1, so it’s a great chance to look at the Decks – and the Duelists – at the top tables!  The following are the competitors seated at the 10 highest-ranked tables right now.  All of them are undefeated heading into the round…

QQ: What’s Your Favorite Meklord!

QQ stands for Quick Questions! When Team New World took on Team 5D’s, the Signers’ Dragons clashed with the villains’ Meklords in a 3-on-3 Turbo Duel that determined the fate of the world! Throughout the Duel, Primo, Lester, and Jakob, eventually taking the form of Aporia, Summoned their Meklord Emperors in an effort to rid the world of Synchro Summons! I asked a bunch of this weekend’s Duelists which Meklord is their favorite. Check out their answers!

Round 4 Feature Match: Audrey Tan VS James Kim

Audrey Tan and James Kim are both local Canadian Duelists, and now they’re pitted against one another in a Duel between Agents and Plants. This is a common Matchup in this weekend’s tournament, and even though both of these Duelists are currently undefeated, only one of them will advance beyond this round with a perfect 4-0 record.

Round 4 Feature Match: Tristan Gonzalez VS Bo Tang

Toronto’s Bo Tang was the only Canadian competitor in the 2011 Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship this year, and now he’s back to compete in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series here in his hometown of Toronto!  Tang has a 3-0 record so far, but his opponent this round is Tristan Gonzalez, another well-recognized Torontonian Duelist with multiple WCQ and YCS top finishes!  Tang is playing Tech Genus Agents, while Gonzalez is packing Plant Synchro.  This could become an important matchup over the coming months, so let’s see how it plays out!
