The Dragon Duel division gives younger Duelists their own arena for tournament competition. As the division grows, parents are becoming the unsung heroes of many a YCS! Plenty of Dragon Duelists have chalked up stellar accomplishments over the past few years, but behind every Dragon Duel winner stands a supportive mom, dad, or guardian that’s helping them grow – not just as a competitor, but as a person, too.
Championship level events are always full of awesome moves and shocking turns of luck, but sometimes a handful of unbelievable plays simply stand above the rest! Let’s take a look back on the weekend, and discuss some of the moments that impressed us the most from our Feature Matches!
This weekend was all about Abyss Rising, so we approached a wide array of Duelists to ask them to name their favorite cards from the new set. The answers were pleasantly all over the place, so check ’em out!
What are your favorite cards from Abyss Rising?
With Abyss Rising making such an impact on the field this weekend, alot of Duelists had differing opinions on what the biggest threats were in this tournament. We now know that Agents, Wind-Ups, Dino Rabbit, and Mermails took the most spots in the Top 16, though it was Inzektors that won it all. That said, we hit the tournament floor Saturday to ask competitors what they were running, and what they were siding for this weekend! Here’s what they had to say…
Abyss Rising really changed the field here this weekend: the metagame here at YCS Seattle is vastly different from what we saw a month ago at YCS Providence, so earlier on Saturday we decided to ask Duelists from all walks of life what they felt would win the Championship. The top pick?! You get one guess…
It all came down to this! Michael Stibbins is playing an aggressive Inzektor Deck that players this weekend just haven’t been ready for, while Norberto Leon is running Mermails with Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord and Mirror Force.
Four Duelists were left in this tournament, and while Sorosh Saberian and Norberto Leon played a Mermail mirror match, Adrian Sean Shakir and Michael Stibbins were about to pit Wind-Ups against Inzektors. A win here meant a trip to the Finals and a guaranteed copy of the Championship Prize Card Digvorzhak, King of Heavy Industry!
This is the final battle for our Sunday Dragon Duel! Matthew Wilkinson is fresh off a Feature Match win last round, and looking for more. His opponent is yesterday’s Dragon Duel winner, Marion Smith IV! Marion has switched Decks from yesterday, now playing a Chaos Dragon Deck. Will Matthew’s experience give him the edge, or can Marion take a back-to-back victory at his first YCS? Let’s find out!
