We’ve gotten to know both of these competitors pretty well this weekend, as this is the third Feature Match for each Duelist this weekend! Thomas Mak is from Philadelphia, and in the Top 8 Feature Match we saw him put a combined five copies of Tiki Curse and Tiki Soul to work – he effectively drafted a Tiki Deck, and now he’s in the Finals.

REMATCH! These two competitors played on the bubble at YCS Toronto last September; a Match that Mak won, landing him in the Top 32 and shunting Ahearn out of the tournament entirely. Now, almost seven months later Ahearn would get a shot at some redemption. The winner here moves on to the Top 4, with an extremely strong shot at a Championship Prize Card.

Marc Carisse from Toronto, Canada piloted a Geargia Deck to a 9-2 finish in the Swiss Rounds this weekend. James Valentino from Houston, Texas ran an Infernity Deck with Archfiend Heiress and Archfiend Palabyrinth in it, and finished the Swiss Rounds with a 10-1 record. Both Duelists proved their exception skill with the Decks they constructed, but do they have what it takes to win with brand new Decks constructed from packs of Battle Pack: War of the Giants? It’s time to Duel!

If you’re reading this coverage post-event, you may have already seen our Draft Along coverage with Joe Bogli, where we followed him through his drafting process card by card! You saw him prioritize cards like Butterspy Protection (which he drafted two copies of), and that big pick where he chose Memory of an Adversary over Pot of Duality. Now, here in the Top 16, we’re going to see how all those decisions would play out! Bogli made the Top 8 at YCS Atlanta and now he was back this weekend, hoping for an even better showing.
His opponent this round is one of two Canadians in the Top 16: Harison Perinpanayagam from Toronto, Ontario, Canada! He’s had some drafting experience before, but never drafted with War of the Giants: Round 2. Let’s see what kind of difference that makes in this Feature Match…

Seattle, Washington’s Tatsuaki Yajima went 10-1 in the Swiss Rounds of the YCS this weekend with his Prophecy Deck – a Deck that we have not yet seen in action in a Feature Match this weekend. Now he’s facing off against Toronto, Canada’s Kareem O’Brien, who piloted his Geargia Deck to a 9-2 record. Both Duelists’ life in the tournament is on the line in this Top 32 Feature Match, as only the victor will advance to the Top 16. It’s time to Duel!

Last round we showed you Gabriel Andrade’s Ghostrick Madolche Deck, and now here in the Top 32 he’s up against Patrick Guilfoyle with Fire Kings! We were about to find out.

Local Chicago Duelist Gabriel Andrade lost his first 2 rounds of the tournament, but kept his spirits high. He won the next 8 rounds with his Ghostrick Madolche Deck, and is now one win away from a Top 32 finish! Andrade’s opponent, Toronto’s Rob Chung, lost rounds 1 and 3 of the tournament; but like Andrade, he never lost hope – he won the rest of the rounds with his Bujin Deck, and like Andrade, is one victory away from making it to the elimination rounds. Both of these Duelists have made it far in this weekend’s YCS tournament, but only one of them can make it to the Top 32. It’s time to Duel!

Yesterday when Doug Zeeff was savagely blown out by Infernities, we gave him a shot at redemption. Today we’re going to do to the same thing for German Duelist Benedikt Junk! Junk is riding the bubble with an 8-2 record with Dark Worlds, while his opponent Justin Ward has the same record with Fire Fists. Whoever wins here has a very good shot at the Top 32 if not a guaranteed spot in the top cut. The loser will likely be out of the tournament. Justin Ward’s been on the bubble once before, and while Junk has topped several European YCS tournaments, he’s bubbled out here in the US five times. This would be a milestone victory for whoever won this Match.

Bujins have had a strong presence at the top tables this weekend, but seem to have been underrepresented in Feature Matches. We’re going to try to rectify that this round, as we Feature Match one of the many Bujin Decks still in contention for a Top 32 finish. Thomas Mak currently hold a 7-2 record with his Bujin Deck, which utilizes the combined synergies of the Bujin, Bujingi, and Bujintei monsters. His opponent this round, Jeremy Lozano, has a 7-2 record with Mermails. A victory in this round will bring one of these Duelists closer to a Top 32 finish, while a loss is likely to make it impossible for one of these Duelists to advance to the elimination rounds. It’s time to Duel!
