Round 4 Feature Match: Aaron Chase Furman Versus Dale Bellido

September 6th, 2014

Two rounds ago we highlighted the return of two-time YCS winner Billy Brake, who now holds a 3-0 record headed into Round 4!  But Brake isn’t the only legend of the game making a comeback here this weekend, because a Toronto classic has come out of retirement to rep his home turf – Toronto’s own Dale Bellido is back, piloting Shaddolls.

But his opponent is one of the most successful Duelists of the year, Aaron Chase Furman!  Swift to innovate in the post-Duelist Alliance environment, the New Jersey Duelist is sticking with the Satellarknight strategy that’s done so well for him over the past weeks, including what may be his signature – Battleguard Howling.

Round 3 Feature Match: James Ribis Versus Dayton Yuen

September 6th, 2014

While Shaddolls were huge the first weekend when Duelist Alliance first debuted, Satellarknights quickly pulled ahead to match them in the following weeks of competition.  But we’ve seen a tremendous amount of variety amongst the Regional Top 8 versions we’ve seen: Duelists have run as few as eight “Satellarknight” monsters, or as many as thirteen or more, creating vastly different takes on the strategy.  James Ribis is pushing the envelope even further this weekend, gearing his Deck to take advantage of Satellarknight Alsahm and aiming to win with burn damage.

His opponent is Dayton Yuen, from Mount Albert right here in Ontario.  He’s running Chaos Dragons, an uncommon pick that may be able to outspeed Ribis’ strategy.  This one could go either way, though a strong defensive set-up in the early game for Ribis could cause big problems for Yuen; the Chaos Dragon strategy traditionally tries to push through backrow aggressively, which could leave Yuen vulnerable to Magic Cylinder, Battleguard Howling, and Dimension Wall.

Round 2 Feature Match: Billy Brake Versus Siu Ye

September 6th, 2014

Billy Brake is back! After a long hiatus from competition, the fan-favorite YCS winner is officially on the comeback trail this weekend, with plans to throw down at YCS Dallas and YCS Anaheim later this year!  Duel fans will remember Billy Brake from his Championship win right here in Toronto back in 2011, where Brake innovated the Plant Synchro strategy with triple Maxx “C”.  He then followed it up one month later with another Championship victory, at YCS Columbus!  It was an unprecedented run, and now Brake’s back to try and reclaim his throne.

His opponent is from Siu Ye from Montreal, and while he’s never topped a YCS before, he has more Regional Top 8’s in Montreal than he can count.  While Brake’s piloting Burning Abyss, Siu is running Shaddolls, which might give him an advantage if he can score a couple strong openings.  Siu won the die roll and decided to go second.

Round 1 Feature Match: Sehabi Kheireddine Versus Bryan Lucier

September 6th, 2014

One month ago in Rimini Italy, Canada’s own Sehabi Kheireddine captured the 2014 World Championship title!  Since then the native Montrealer has celebrated his 19th birthday, and now he’s back in action gunning for another Championship.  His deck of choice?  Satellarknights with Artifacts.

His opponent is 27 year-old Bryan Lucier from Windsor Ontario!  This is Lucier’s fourth YCS event, and he’s playing an under-the-radar Deck that’s put in a couple notable finishes lately in Regional Qualifiers: Harpies.  That could be trouble, as the destruction effect of his Harpies’ Hunting Ground might go horrendously wrong if he plays into an Artifact card.  Let’s see how it turns out!
