Day 1 Dragon Duel Top 4!

Each day at every YCS weekend, Duelists compete in the Dragon Duel event – a special Public Event reserved for youth competitors born in 2002 or later.  The Top 4 of each Dragon Duel on Saturday and Sunday win t-shirts, medals, and playmats to commemorate their achievements, while the top finisher from Day 1 and Day 2 square off for the title of Dragon Duel Champion on Sunday.

Round 6 Feature Match: Thomas Morran Versus Ruo Chen Mo

Thomas Morran is a staple competitor of the Toronto Dueling scene, while his opponent this round is Montreal’s Ruo Chen Mo!  Montreal competitors have bene tearing up this tournament all day long, and Mo’s undefeated record with Shaddolls was no exception.  But Morran was running Burning Abyss, currently the second most-successful Deck in the tournament.  Would Mo steal another win for the Montreal contingent, or would Morran remain undefeated to represent Toronto in Day 2?   Read more…

Top Table Update: Round 5

Four Rounds are in the record books here in Day 1, and with eight Rounds of Swiss competition today plus two more tomorrow, our Saturday’s officially half over!

 

As the tournament continues the players with the best records are sorted closer and closer to lower table numbers, with undefeated Duelists creeping toward the coveted seats at Table 1; the higher your ranking, the lower your table.  With just a few rounds remaining it’s a great time to look at those top tables and see what the competitors with the best records are playing – it’s like a snapshot of YCS success, and it’s a great way to get a feel for the shape of the tournament.

Round 5 Feature Match: Hunter Raymond Knight Versus Manpreet Rattan

September 6th, 2014

Manpreet Rattan hails from Montreal, and like so many competitors this weekend he’s undefeated in Round 5 with Shaddols.  While the Artifact variant of Shaddolls hasn’t appeared to be very popular thus far in Day 1, Rattan’s playing Artifact Sanctum and Artifact Moralltach.

 

His opponent is Toronto’s Hunter Raymond Knight, currently 4-0 with Frog Monarchs!  The release of The Monarchs Stormforth has created a surge of interest in Monarch strategies, and Knight’s banking on tech choices like Jinzo and Majesty’s Fiend to give him an edge in this tournament.  So far the plan’s been working! With just four Rounds left, let’s see if Knight can keep his streak alive.  Knight won the roll and opted to let his opponent go first.

Round 4 Feature Match: Aaron Chase Furman Versus Dale Bellido

Two rounds ago we highlighted the return of two-time YCS winner Billy Brake, who now holds a 3-0 record headed into Round 4!  But Brake isn’t the only legend of the game making a comeback here this weekend, because a Toronto classic has come out of retirement to rep his home turf – Toronto’s own Dale Bellido is back, piloting Shaddolls.

 

But his opponent is one of the most successful Duelists of the year, Aaron Chase Furman!  Swift to innovate in the post-Duelist Alliance environment, the New Jersey Duelist is sticking with the Satellarknight strategy that’s done so well for him over the past weeks, including what may be his signature – Battleguard Howling.
