Round 1 Feature Match: Pete Navarro versus Stephen Silverman

November 7th, 2015

The last time we saw Pete Navarro in San Jose, he came in 4th place using an innovative Volcanic Quickdraw Deck in 2010. He has chosen to battle with Speedroid Majespecter this weekend, a new powerful Pendulum strategies from Dimension of Chaos. His Deck looks to gain early advantage and grind out the opponent by repeatedly Pendulum Summoning Monsters until his opponent runs out of resources. Stephen Silverman on the other hand is using an equally awesome Deck: Performage Lightsworn. Known for his win at SJC Los Angeles 2010 with Lightsworn, Silverman is looking to run back his luck this time. His strategy tries to abuse Rank 4 Xyz Monsters, mainly Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn, and fill his Graveyard with resources to eventually bury the opponent.

Who will come out on top?

Navarro won the roll and chose to go first.

October 4th, 2015

Matt Kolenda has had quite the year, qualifying for the 2015 Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship by placing 5th in the North American World Championship Qualifier. Even with such a big accomplishment, becoming a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Winner is what the goal is for today. He has chosen to use a Burning Abyss Deck that focuses on disrupting the opponent and continual pressure thanks to Malebranches. His opponent, Ed Elton Acepcion, may not have the same credentials, but has still proven his worth today with the same strategy. This is a Burning Abyss mirror match where choosing the correct line is very important, but of course getting a bit lucky with Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss does not hurt either.

Top 16 Feature Match: Jake Mattern versus Ryan Levine

October 4th, 2015

One of the unique strategies that have seen a lot of success this weekend is Performage Challenger. Never having seen any success prior to this event, two Duelists managed to make the Top Cut piloting similar lists. What gave this Deck such a big boost? Well as a Rank 4 Xyz-centric strategy, Instant Fusion and Elder Entity Norden both do a lot of work and tie the Performage and Heroic Challenger themes together. Jake Mattern is one of those two Duelists and because the other has lost in Top 32, now the only one remaining in the tournament.

Ryan Levine has gone with a much more mainstream choice, using Nekroz packing his own copies of Instant Fusion and Elder Entity Norden to help him produce game winning damage and flexible answers. Ryan Levine is coming off of a Top 16 finish at this past YCS Toronto, and now he is trying to outdo his past performance.

Will Mattern be successful with his Performage Challenger Deck? Or will Ryan Levine snuff out the strategy from the tournament? One Duelists will make it into Top 8, the other will be packing their bags, albeit with some awesome prizes.

Levine won the roll and chose for Mattern to go first.

October 4th, 2015

We saw Chalana Bel-Air lose in the Feature Match Area yesterday, but he managed to fight through the Swiss rounds with his super cool Performage Challenger Deck with a 9-2 record. He was one of two Duelists to make it into the Top Cut with a similar strategy, but is it strong enough to keep putting up those results? Jonathan Rosario is the one posing that question right now. He finished 9-1-1 in Swiss with his Performage Shaddoll Deck which has been a very popular choice for the weekend. Shaddoll is known for having an advantage against strategies that need the Extra Deck to work effectively, and the Xyz-centric Performage Challenger Deck seems to be one of those.

Both Duelists are fighting for their tournament life as this is now the Single Elimination Top Cut Rounds. Who will move onto the Top 16?

Rosario won the roll and chose for Bel-Air to start.
