Round 9 Feature Match: Erik Goodwin versus Malik Dancy

May 29th, 2016

Erik Goodwin and Malik Dancy both made it to Day 2 of YCS Providence with 7-1 records. Now, they’re Dueling their hardest to secure a spot in the Top 32. Each Duelist will need at least one more victory for a shot at making the Top 32 cut, but each one will be aiming to win both of the last two Swiss Rounds to guarantee that Top 32 spot.

Erik Goodwin is using a Monarch Deck without an Extra Deck in order to capitalize on the effect of Domain of the True Monarchs. Malik Dancy is using a Kozmo Deck featuring 2 copies of Kozmoll Dark Lady, 2 copies of Kozmo Landwalker, and 1 copy of Fire King Island from Shining Victories. Dancy’s inclusion of one copy of Fire King Island and one copy of Fire King Avatar Garunix in his Kozmo Deck allows him to destroy the Kozmo monsters in his hand to trigger their effects with Fire King Island.

Will Goodwin’s Monarchs prevail over Dancy’s Kozmos? We’re about to find out – it’s time to Duel!

Round 8 Feature Match: Vincent Silverman versus Steven Tarnok

May 29th, 2016

Vincent Silverman and Steven Tarnok are both currently 5-2 in this weekend’s tournament. Silverman is using a “Domain Monarch” Deck that declines to use an Extra Deck in order to capitalize on the full effect of Domain of the True Monarchs. This variant of Monarch Decks seems to have lost a lot of popularity lately, as Monarch Decks that include a complete Extra Deck overtook them on the tournament scene. Steven Tarnok is using a Kozmo Deck strengthened by the recent release of new Kozmo monsters in Shining Victories. Only one of these two Duelists can win our Round 8 Feature Match and advance to Day 2. It’s time to Duel!

Round 6 Feature Match: Ivan Cortez versus Matthew Souza

May 29th, 2016

When we looked over the top tables for the next feature match, I spotted an Elemental HERO deck, and we assumed there would be new tech like Card of Demise to boost the strategy. Truth be told, we didn’t find any such new tech. And yet, Ivan Cortez has piloted his Elemental HERO Deck to a 4-1 record today. He’s playing against Matthew Souza running Majespecters also with a 4-1 record. Who can keep their streak going? Let’s find out!

Round 6 Feature Match: Cleivis Alfama versus Jason Zimmerman

May 29th, 2016

Cleivis Alfama and Jason Zimmerman both currently have four wins and one loss in the tournament, each with a rather unconventional strategy. Cleivis Alfama from Massachusetts is using an Atlantean Mermail Deck that features Brilliant Fusion and Performage Trick Clown to enhance its ability to wipe out 8000 Life Points in a single turn. Zimmerman, on the other hand, is using a Performapal Pendulum Deck that features 3 copies of Angel Trumpeter – a Level 4 Normal Tuner from Shining Victories that has synergy with the Rescue Rabbit, Painful Decisions, and Unexpected Dais that Zimmerman also uses in his Deck. Angel Trumpeter helps Zimmerman make big plays involving Synchro Summons, making his Performapal Pendulum Deck nearly as explosive as Alfama’s Atlantean Mermails. Now, Alfama and Zimmerman are Dueling against one another in this Round 6 Feature Match, in a Match that will determine which Duelist will advance with a 5-1 record. It’s time to Duel!

Saturday’s Dragon Duel Feature Match: Lyndon Neff versus Eddie Strom

May 28th, 2016

12-year-old Lyndon Neff from Connecticut is Dueling against 13-year-old Eddie Strom from New Jersey in the final round of Saturday’s Dragon Duel Tournament! This weekend’s Dragon Duel Tournaments are using the Battle Pack Sealed Format, permitting Duelists one opening hand re-draw per Match, and giving each monster all monster types. Lyndon Neff is brand new to the Sealed Format, and Eddie Strom has only played in a Sealed Pack Tournament once, so both Duelists have been learning most of their strategies as they progressed through the tournament. Neff and Strom are currently both undefeated, but only one of them will be able to emerge as Saturday’s Dragon Duel Champion and earn a spot in tomorrow’s Dragon Duel Playoff! It’s time to Duel!

Round 5 Feature Match: Carlos Flores versus Cristian Urena

May 28th, 2016

Local Providence Duelist Carlos Flores is Dueling against Cristian Urena from Reading, Pennsylvania in our Round 5 Feature Match. Flores is currently undefeated in the tournament using his Gravekeeper’s Deck, which features 3 copies of Card of Demise from the new Millennium Pack. Card of Demise has allowed several “underdog” Decks that were previously perceived as non-competitive to rise above the competition by giving those Decks an incredible ability to draw numerous cards. Flores’s Gravekeeper’s Deck is just one of those many “underdog” Decks that benefits from the inclusion of Card of Demise, and that has made it to the top tables of this weekend’s YCS as a result of it.

But Cristian Urena is looking to end Flores’s winning streak right here! Urena is using a Performapal Odd-Eyes Deck that relies on Pendulum Summons to overwhelm the field. Will Flores’s passive Deck be able to exploit Card of Demise enough to defeat Cristian Urena? Or will Urena’s explosive Pendulum Summoning strategy be too much for Flores to handle? We’re about to find out – it’s time to Duel!
