There are two more Rounds of competition before the cut to Top 64, so it’s an excellent time to see what’s at the top tables here in Day 2! Kashtira still appears to be the format’s Deck-to-beat going by sheer representation, Spright and Runick Naturia both have solid table share as well.
Good morning! It’s Round 10, the first Round of competition here in Day 2 at the 250th YCS in Los Angeles! After nine Rounds of Dueling yesterday we have another nine Rounds slated for today: three more Swiss Rounds, and then a cut to Top 64 with six additional knockout Rounds.
The field is surprisingly varied right now, and our Round 10 Feature Match is testament to that: Alexander Singh Juneja is piloting Naturia Runick, while Alexander Douglas Huynh is on Tenyi Swordsoul. Both of these competitors are playing decks that are a little under the radar, and both of them have 7-2 records. It’s critical that each of them wins their next three Rounds; a loss here could easily punt them out of contention for the Top 64.
There are literally hundreds of prizes on offer in return for Prize Tickets, here at the 250th YCS in Los Angeles, but one category of prize always tops the collected competitors’ most-wanted lists: uncut sheets of Starlight Rares.
We already showed you the exclusive 250th YCS Win-A-Mat prize mat featuring Black Luster Soldier – Legendary Swordsman and Firewall Dragon Darkfluid – Neo Tempest Terahertz, but that’s not the only place you’ll find these monsters this weekend! Honoring this weekend’s guest voice actors, Dan Green and Jake Paque, those same cards were awarded as Giant Cards and jumbo-sized promos in the Saturday ATTACK OF THE GIANT CARD!! tournament!
Wyatt Brannock traveled here this weekend from Northern Arizona, and he’s sitting at the top tables with a Deck we haven’t seen much of this format: Drytron. His opponent is Christian Paul Gregorio Pascua from Las Vegas, piloting the number one matchup Brannock, and everybody else here is expecting: Kashtira.
Can Brannock’s rogue run continue? Or was Arise-Heart about to claim another victim? Let’s find out…
We showed you the stunning Participation Prize game mat in the coverage earlier today, but that’s far from the only game mat up for grabs this weekend. Like all YCS tournaments, the top finishers in the elimination rounds will earn a second game mat as part of their prize, exclusive to the Top Cut!
Aaron Chase Furman is a YCS winner, a UDS Champion, and a frequent commentator on the official livestream at YCS events! But today he’s back at the tables, competing in the main event of the 250th YCS here in Los Angeles piloting Dark World. His opponent is Michael Zhen, a Spright Duelist armed with some surprise tech for match-ups just like these.
Can Furman demolish his opponent’s hand with Sillva? Or will Zhen cut him off at the pass? Both competitors hold 4-1 records in the tournament so far, so a win here is pretty important. Let’s see what happens.
For an event of this size pre-registration is a must: if you don’t pre-register to lock in your spot at a YCS, you might not be able to compete! With a total player count of over 3200 competitors in the main event this weekend, a grand total of 2862 Duelists pre-registered to guarantee their spot in the tournament.
Naturia Runick’s emerged as one of the surprise success stories of the format, and Shunping Xu’s piloting that very deck here this weekend. The winner of YCS Pasadena in 2018, and the champion of the Ultimate Duelist Series Invitational in Tulsa in 2020, Xu’s one of 48 competitors here this weekend with VIP status.
But he’ll have his work cut out for him here in Round 4, because his opponent is Alejandro Garcia Moreno! While Xu’s won one UDS Invitational Garcia’s the only Duelist to ever win two. He won YCS Costa Rica in 2016, and the Mexican National Championship in the same year. Both of these Duelists are dedicated, decorated, and respected as some of the world’s greatest competitors, and now they were going head-to-head.
There’s a lot of cool stuff to see here at the 250th YCS in Los Angeles, but one display’s got everybody buzzing: the Quarter Century Secret Rares from the upcoming Legendary Collection: 25th Anniversary Edition.
