Round 11 Feature Match: Max Lehmann vs. Andrew Willett

November 5th, 2023

This is it, the final Swiss round of the tournament! After this we’ll be cutting to just the final Top 32 Duelists. This Feature Match pits two YCS first-timers against each other! Max Lehmann from Sioux Falls South Dakota is playing Scareclaw, and he’s facing Andrew Willett, from Scarbro West Virginia, playing Runick Stun!

Scareclaws make some powerful plays, and they’re good at fighting a war of attrition thanks to their Field Spell and multiple options for removal. On the other side, Runick Decks like Willett’s seek to lock down the field with tons of floodgates, negations, and well-timed destructions, while keeping their hand full thanks to their own Field Spell. Both Duelists are on the bubble, looking for a win to make that coveted Top Cut spot.

Max Lehmann is smiling because of his weird opening hand.

Round 9 Feature Match: Muhtasim Mallick vs. Gilles Thomas

November 4th, 2023

This is it, the final Round of Swiss competition here in Day 1 of YCS Richmond! We liked Gilles Thomas’s Dinomorphia Exosister Deck so much, we brought him back for another Feature Match. If you missed it, you can see it in action winning our Round 7 Feature Match, where he took down Haris Mirzada’s Adventure Plunder Patroll Deck.

This time, he’s up against Muhtasim Mallick, a Long Island Duelist playing Purrely. This matchup could get interesting, since Purrely Pretty Memory can manipulate the Dinomorphia Duelist’s Life Points, but Purrely are also susceptible to a lot of the Exosister and Dinomorphia effects. There’s only one way to find out how it’ll go: It’s time to Duel!

His opponent is Mingrui Cai, also 6-1 playing Tearlaments, boosted with the powerful Horus cards from Age of Overlord. Both strategies have been flying under the radar, but both are seeing incredible success today, so this one should be interesting. It’s time to Duel!
