Jibri Thomas made it to the Top 16 at YCS Charlotte with his Zombiesworn Deck, and now he’s back for the WCQ, this time playing Tengu Plants! His opponent, Kalvin Harrigal, has never attended a YCS before and is entering his first-ever WCQ this weekend. Both of these Duelists currently have 7-2 records, but only one of them will be able to advance to the next round with 8 wins.

Frazier Smith is a YCS winner who beat out the competition at YCS Atlanta by using Gravekeeper’s. This allowed him to claim his first championship title. Since then, he has made it to the Top 16 at YCS Rhode Island with X-Sabers, and made it to the Top 16 at YCS Charlotte with Dragunities. But Josh Snyder is no stranger to the top tables either. He made the Top 32 of YCS Dallas with his Six Samurai Deck, and now he’s back for the WCQ, using his Six Samurai Deck against Smith’s Agents.

Victor Santana is running a new generation Herald Deck that he calls “Heralds of Hope”. Unlike the Herald builds of previous formats, Santana’s Deck isn’t packed with Normal Monsters that fuel Advanced Ritual Art. He’s not even running the extremely high Fairy count that some of the older Herald Decks run. Instead, he’s running Fairies, Fiends, and Spellcasters in his Deck, and that added versatility gives his Deck a lot of flexibility where other Herald Decks fell short. Read more…
Victor Santana is currently 2-0 in the tournament with his “Heralds of Hope” Deck that uses Dawn of the Herald with Tour Guide from the Underworld and Djinn Releaser of Rituals to pin down his opponent’s plays. Marshaun Young is currently 6-1 with the Fairy Chaos Deck we profiled at the start of the tournament. His opponent, Christopher Evans, has a 6-1 record with Infernities. Young’s 3 copies of Royal Decree may make this a tough matchup for Evans, but if Evans can draw the right cards early on, he may be able to defeat Young before he gets his Deck up-and-running. A victory here will put one of these Duelists into a great position to make the Top 32 after the 2 rounds of swiss tomorrow morning.

Fairies have been gaining popularity since September 1st, as Counter Fairies continue to be innovated in a number of different directions after seeing some success at YCS Toronto. Today, previous YCS Indianapolis Top 8 competitor Christopher Krause is trying his hand at a Fairy Deck, but he’s not playing Counter Fairies; instead, Krause is running a Deck he calls “Fairy Circle.” With a deep lineup of LIGHT Fairy-Types, Krause runs Gold Sarcophagus and Soul of Purity and Light to remove them from play which then let him add them to his hand with the Fairy-Type Dimensional Alchemist. That lets him search out, use, and reuse powerful monsters like Archlord Kristya, Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Honest, as well as letting him fetch more surprising choices like Gellenduo and Herald of Orange Light.
