Sean Montague was the 2010 World Championship Qualifier winner with X-Sabers when he competed in the World Championship that year. Now, after an 8-2 finish in the Swiss rounds of YCS Toronto, he’s made it to the Top 32! But Paul Blair, his friend from a local in Michigan, is hoping to stop Montague in his tracks and take his spot in the Top 16.

Audrey Tan and James Kim are both local Canadian Duelists, and now they’re pitted against one another in a Duel between Agents and Plants. This is a common Matchup in this weekend’s tournament, and even though both of these Duelists are currently undefeated, only one of them will advance beyond this round with a perfect 4-0 record.

Toronto’s Bo Tang was the only Canadian competitor in the 2011 Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship this year, and now he’s back to compete in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series here in his hometown of Toronto! Tang has a 3-0 record so far, but his opponent this round is Tristan Gonzalez, another well-recognized Torontonian Duelist with multiple WCQ and YCS top finishes! Tang is playing Tech Genus Agents, while Gonzalez is packing Plant Synchro. This could become an important matchup over the coming months, so let’s see how it plays out!

Robert Boyajian is the most recent YCS winner. He tore through the competition with his Plant Deck at YCS Indianapolis, and now he’s hoping to do the same thing with his T.G. Deck here in Toronto. But David Tweg, an inexperienced Duelist who recently picked up his Fairy Deck, will be doing everything he can to defeat the former champion.

Vincent Cassello was the final Samurai Duelist left in the tournament. He was so close to the finals, but he would have to win two more Matches to get there. His opponent, Phillip Smith, intended to put a stop to the Samurai advance with his Plant Synchro Deck.

This was the last Swiss Round of the tournament, and both of these competitors had 7-2 records: a win here is the only way either Duelist can reach the Top 32. We showed you Alex Vansant’s innovative Ultimate Offering Synchro Deck yesterday in a Deck Profile, and later in a Feature Match. We also saw Kenneth McCarthy in action last night in a Feature Match as well. After this Match, only one would still have a shot at making the playoffs.

Juan Morales is currently 5-0 with his Deck built around Reborn Tengu and Genex Ally Birdman, and now he’s facing off against Anthony Alvarado, who is undefeated with a Plant Synchro Deck! Morales is taking full advantage of the new cards by packing his Main Deck with a full set of Tengus and Birdmans, and Alvarado is using 3 copies of Tour Guide From the Underworld, just to grab Sangan and other Tour Guides from his Deck.

Both of these Duelists have won previous major tournaments, and both were here today competing with Tengu Plant Decks. This new breed of Synchro strategy is taking plenty of wins here in Orlando, combining the Tuning power of Spore, Glow-Up Bulb, and Debris Dragon with the staying power of Reborn Tengu. The result is an aggressive deck that can also weather aggressive opponents, and that can bust out big pushes like never before. While Smith is playing a more predictable version of the strategy, Jones is running Tour Guide From the Underworld and Dark Mimic LV3 in his build.

Frazier Smith and Jacob Haar both won their Feature Matches this weekend and are now facing off in a Match that pits Dragunities against Plant Synchro! Neither of these Decks is heavily represented in the Top 32, but either one of them may have what it takes to win the tournament.
