Day 1 of the Ultimate Time Wizard Tournament has concluded! This special Public Event uses the card pool and Forbidden & Limited List that was in effect in April 2010, allowing Duelists to play by the rules as they existed at that time. Lots of Duelists are nostalgic about this era of Dueling, where Synchro Summoning was the newest Summoning mechanic and Xyz and Pendulum Monsters were a thing of the future. The Ultimate Time Wizard Tournament at YCS Raleigh takes us back to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME as it was played in April of 2010. In this event, the legal card pool only includes cards that were allowed to be used at YCS Edison nearly 14 years ago.

TCG, TEAM YCS Las Vegas offered a unique opportunity: a chance to unite with two of your closest Dueling allies to compete in a Team Format tournament spanning three of the game’s most loved Forbidden & Limited Lists: April 2005, March 2010, and September 2011. Teams got to showcase their mastery of iconic cards like Thousand-Eyes Restrict, Quickdraw Synchron, and Reborn Tengu, testing their skills in three very different formats.

Nearly 300 Duelists competed in the Ultimate Time Wizard TEAM Tournament this weekend, Dueling in three eras the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG: 2005, 2010, and 2011. Now just two teams were left: one team would walk away with over-sized foil versions for Caius the Shadow Monarch, Mobius the Frost Monarch, and Raiza the Storm Monarch, but the winners would claim fully-fledged GIANT CARD printings!
Joshua Lytle of Team Lytle To No Tops is up against Rudy Gonzalez of Team TMT, taking a classic Reborn Tengu Deck against Gonzalez’s Tengu Tech Genus build. It’s 2011 all over again and these competitors are ready to throw down: it’s time to Duel!
One of the greatest things about the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG is that it’s got more than two decades of competitive pedigree, spanning some of the most beloved formats in all of card gaming. Normally, a Time Wizard Format tournament les competitors relive one of their favorite eras of Dueling. But this weekend’s all about Team Dueling, and the YCS main event isn’t the only team tournament in the mix! The Ultimate Time Wizard TEAM Tournament here in Las Vegas pits teams of 3 Duelists each against each other, with each pair of Duelists competing in a different era.
Welcome to the Ultimate Time Wizard Finals! This tournament used the April 2010 Advanced Format rules, an era where Synchro Monsters were new and the possibilities were endless.
Here at the Finals table we have Ernie Aranda from Los Angeles, playing a Vayu Turbo Deck, facing off against James “Arc” Johnson from Maine, using a Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth Deck! These Duelists are originally from opposite sides of the country, but they now both live in New York and go to the same local tournament!
Aranda made sure to sing Johnson’s praises, saying that his Deck list and the rest of the Top 8 were pioneered by Johnson. But that doesn’t mean he’s gonna go easy on him – only one Duelist can come out ahead and take home the GIANT Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn!
