For our Round 2 Genesys Format Main Event Feature Match here at YCS Columbus, we have two Duelists that are playing powerful Fusion-based strategies. Kody Lee Stohler is playing the Darklord Deck, which is able to bring out monsters such as The First Darklord and Darklord Eveningstar. Meanwhile, Quinten Cooper Huckaby is playing the Branded Despia Deck, a reliable Deck that can bring out monsters like Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon! Each of these Duelists won their respective first rounds, but only one will improve to 2-0. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Stohler opened with Banishment of the Darklords, Darklord Dance, Indulged Darklord, Darklord Gulgolet, and Herald of Green Light. 

Huckaby won the die roll and chose to go first! He began by activating the effect of Albion the Shrouded Dragon, sending Fallen of Albaz to the Graveyard, returning Albion to the bottom of the Deck, and drawing a card. Next, he Normal Summoned Aluber the Jester of Despia and searched for Branded Fusion! He then activated Branded Fusion, but Stohler Chained the effect of Herald of Green Light, discarding it and Darklord Gulgolet to negate Branded Fusion. Afterwards, Stohler used Gulgolet’s effect to search for Darklord Ixchel. With that, Huckaby ended his turn. 

Stohler began by activating Banishment of the Darklords and searching for another copy of Darklord Gulgolet. Next, he activated the effect of Darklord Ixchel, discarding it and Gulgolet to draw two copies of Nibiru, the Primal Being! He activated Gulgolet’s effect, searching for Darklord Djehuty, then Normal Summoned Djehuty and Special Summoned a third Gulgolet from his Deck. He used Gulgolet’s effect to Special Summon two Darklord Tokens, then activated Darklord Dance, using the two Tokens to Fusion Summon Darklord Eveningstar and Set Darklord Contact and The Sanctified Darklord to his backrow. 

Next, Stohler activated Darklord Contact, Special Summoning back Darklord Ixchel from the Graveyard. He then activated Eveningstar’s effect, shuffling Banishment of the Darklords back to the Deck to search for Darklord Morningstar. He activated Ixchel’s effect to copy the effect of Darklord Dance, banishing Djehuty and Gulgolet from his Graveyard, as well as Morningstar from hand, to Fusion Summon The First Darklord! He activated The First Darklord’s effect to destroy Huckaby’s Aluber, then proceeded to the Battle Phase. He attacked directly with The First Darklord and Darklord Eveningstar to reduce Huckaby’s Life Points to zero and claim the first Duel! 

Duel 2

Stohler opened the second Duel with Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Gordian Slicer, Indulged Darklord, Darklord Djehuty, and Darklord Morningstar. 

Huckaby chose to go first once again! He began his turn by Normal Summoning Guiding Quem, the Virtuous, sending Albion the Shrouded Dragon from his Deck to the Graveyard. He then Special Summoned Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous from hand. Stohler activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and Huckaby Chained the effect of Cartesia, using it and Springans Kitt from hand to Fusion Summon Granguignol the Dusk Dragon! He activated Quem’s effect to Special Summon back Springans Kitt, as well as Granguignol’s effect to send Albion the Branded Dragon to the Graveyard. Huckaby used Kitt’s effect to search for Branded Fusion, then returned a card from his hand to the bottom of his Deck. 

Next, Huckaby activated Branded Fusion, sending Despian Tragedy and Fallen of Albaz from his Deck to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Lubellion the Searing Dragon! He searched for Ad Libitum of Despia, and shuffled back Lubellion and Fallen of Albaz to the Deck to Fusion Summon Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon. During the End Phase, Huckaby used Albion’s effect to Set Branded in Red to his backrow, then added Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous back to hand, and ended his turn. 

Stohler drew Heavy Polymerization for turn! He started by activating Gordian Slicer, targeting Huckaby’s Granguignol, Mirrorjade, and Quem; Huckaby Chained the effect of Mirrorjade, sending Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon from his Extra Deck to the Graveyard and banishing MIrrorjade, as Stohler banished 6 cards from his Extra Deck and a card from hand to return Quem and Granguignol to Huckaby’s hand. Stohler then Normal Summoned Darklord Djehuty and activated its effect, Special Summoning Darklord Gulgolet from his Deck. He activated Gulgolet’s effect, Special Summoning two Darklord Tokens, then activated Heavy Polymerization! He used Gulgolet from the field, Darklord Morningstar from hand, and Allvain the Essence of Vanity from his Extra Deck to Fusion Summon The First Darklord. He activated its effect, attempting to destroy all cards on Huckaby’s side of the field; Huckaby attempted to activate Branded in Red in response, but Stohler responded with the effect of Herald of Green Light! 

In the Battle Phase, Huckaby activated the effect of Rindbrumm in the Graveyard, banishing it and Special Summoning Fallen of Albaz from the Graveyard. He activated Albaz’s effect, using it, The First Darklord, and Darklord Djehuty to Fusion Summon The Dragon that Devours the Dogma! Without any other ways to play and knowing that Huckaby had multiple cards in hand as follow up, Stohler conceded. We’re moving on to game three! 

Duel 3

Stohler chose to go first in the third Duel! His opening hand contained Gordian Slicer, Super Polymerization, Eradicator Epidemic Virus, and two copies of Darklord Ixchel. He started by activating the effect of Darklord Ixchel, discarding both copies of Ixchel and drawing Darklord Gulgolet and a second copy of Eradicator Epidemic Virus. He Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Huckaby began his turn in the Draw Phase by activating Branded in High Spirits, sending Titaniklad the Ash Dragon from his Extra Deck and Fallen of Albaz from his hand to the Graveyard to search for Springans Kitt. He then Special Summoned Kitt and activated its effect, searching for Branded Fusion and returning a card from his hand to the bottom of his Deck. Next, he activated Branded Fusion, sending Fallen of Albaz and Despian Tragedy from his Deck to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Lubellion the Searing Dragon! He activated the effects of Tragedy and Lubellion, and Stohler activated Super Polymerization as Chain Link 3! Stohler used Huckaby’s Kitt and Lubellion to Fusion Summon Predaplant Dragostapelia, as Huckaby searched for Aluber the Jester of Despia and Fusion Summoned Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon. Afterwards, Stohler activated the effect of the discarded Darklord Gulgolet, searching for Darklord Dance. 

Here, Huckaby Normal Summoned Aluber the Jester of Despia; Stohler attempted to activate the effect of Dragostapelia, but Huckaby Chained the effect of Mirrorjade, banishing Dragostapelia! Huckaby resolved Aluber’s effect to search for Branded in Red, then proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked directly with Aluber and Mirrorjade. Huckaby Set two cards to his backrow and proceeded to the End Phase. There, he used Titaniklad’s effect to Special Summon Guiding Quem, the Virtuous from the Deck and send Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous to the Graveyard. Finally, he added Cartesia back to hand, and ended his turn. 

Stohler drew Fusion Deployment for turn! He began his turn by activating Gordian Slicer, targeting Huckaby’s Mirrorjade and Quem; he banished a card from hand and 6 cards from his Extra Deck to return Quem and Mirrorjade to the hand and Extra Deck, respectively. He then activated Fusion Deployment, revealing Granguignol the Dusk Dragon from his Extra Deck, and Huckaby Chained the effect of Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon in the Graveyard, Special Summoning Fallen of Albaz from the Graveyard as Stohler Special Summoned  Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous from the Deck. Huckaby used Albaz and Stohler’s Cartesia to Fusion Summon Albion the Branded Dragon, then used Albion’s effect to Fusion Summon Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon! Stohler followed up by activating Darklord Dance, banishing two Darklord monsters from his Graveyard to Fusion Summon Darklord Eveningstar. Here, Huckaby activated the effect of Mirrorjade by sending Alba-Lenatus the Abyss Dragon to the Graveyard,  and Stohler Chained Eradicator Epidemic Virus, Tributing Eveninstar and calling Spell Cards! Huckaby Chained Branded in Red, targeting the Despian Tragedy in his Graveyard. On resolution, Huckaby used Tragedy and Albion to Fusion Summon Predaplant Dragostapelia, as Huckaby’s Book of Eclipse and Dark Hole were destroyed. Huckaby resolved Mirrorjade’s effect by banishing his own Aluber, and Stohler Set Darklord Enchantment and Darklord Contact to his backrow. 

Finally, Stohler activated Darklord Contact, Special Summoning Darklord Eveningstar from his Graveyard. He then activated Eveningstar’s effect, shuffling Darklord Contact to the Deck and Special Summoning back Darklord Ixchel. During the End Phase, Huckaby added Cartesia back to hand, and used Alba-Lenatus’ effect to search for Fusion Deployment. 

Huckaby drew Fallen of Albaz for turn! He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect, discarding Cartesia; Stohler responded by activating Darklord Enchantment, then Chained the effect of Eveningstar, targeting the Darklord Dance in his Graveyard! Stohler used his two Darklord monsters to Fusion Summon another Darklord Eveningstar, then took control of Huckaby’s Predaplant Dragostapelia. However, Huckaby resolved the effect of Fallen of Albaz, using Albaz as well as Stohler’s two monsters to Fusion Summon The Dragon that Devours the Dogma! Knowing that he could not survive the upcoming push from Huckaby’s powerful Fusion monsters, Stohler conceded. 

With the victory, Huckaby’s record improves to 2-0 in the Genesys Format Main Event here at YCS Columbus!
