After 9 rounds of Swiss, Duelists had a chance to get some rest before continuing into the second half of YCS Columbus. With 5 rounds left, the competition is fierce as Duelists are trying to ensure the best possible record to make a Top 8 finish this weekend.

Joshua Doile, from Valdosta, Georgia, is playing Fiendsmith Yummy this weekend! This has been a popular strategy for the last few months, but unfortunately, Yummy received a few hits on the Forbidden & Limited List recently.

Santiago Caras, Middletown, New York, is using a DoomZ Deck, which just received a bunch of new support in Blazing Dominion. DoomZ is one of the most popular strategies in the room. It’ll be exciting to see how this new strategy fares against the tried-and-true Fiendsmith Yummy strategy.

Both Duelists have a 7-2 record, which means that a loss will likely put them out of the running for a Top 8 finish. 

Duel One

Caras won the dice roll and opted to start the match.

Caras started with Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus! He sent Power Patron DoomZ from his Deck to the Graveyard to add Vidolium the Unstable Power Patron of Unity, from his Deck to his hand.  Caras then activated Therion “King” Regulus in his hand, and Special Summoned it with Power Patron DoomZ equipped to Regulus. 

Caras Normal Summoned DoomZ VII Seven – Elara and activated its effect to Set DoomZ Raiders from his Deck. He activated Raiders and destroyed Power Patron DoomZ to Special Summon DoomZ V Five – Amalthe from his Deck. He activated Amalthe and added Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron from his Deck to his hand. Caras then Xyz Summoned DoomZ Break – Diactorus, then he used Diactorus to Xyz Summon DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio. He activated Graflareio’s effect and added DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” from his Deck to his hand.

Caras continued his turn by placing Vidolium the Unstable Power Patron of Unity, into the Pendulum Zone. He activated its effect to Special Summon a Power Patron, but Doile activated Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Caras then activated DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” and equipped it to Graflareio. He activated A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A and destroyed Graflareio to Special Summon DoomZ VII Seven – Elara from his Graveyard. Then, Caras activated Graflareio’s effect and Special Summoned Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron. 

Caras then placed a Jupredo into his other Pendulum Zone and then activated DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea! He destroyed the Jupredo in the Pendulum Zone, Special Summoned Drastea, and equipped it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G.” from his Deck. Then, since Jupredo was added to the Extra Deck, Caras was able to add Plundered Power Patron Plane – Vidolia from his Deck to his hand. 

Caras activated Plundered Power Patron Plane – Vidolia and used its effect to Special Summon another Jupredo. He used both Jupredo on the field to Xyz Summon Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times! Caras then activated and reequipped DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to his Elara and ended his turn.

Doile’s starting hand consisted of Yummy☆Surprise, Fiendsmith’s Tract, Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, and Cooky☆Yummy. He drew Yummyusment☆Mignon at the start of his turn. Knowing he was going into an uphill battle, and not wanting to reveal what he was playing, Doile conceded the first Duel during his Draw Phase!

Duel Two

Doile chose to start the second Duel.

Doile looked at his starting hand: Fiendsmith Engraver, two Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, and two Dominus Purge. 

Doile began his turn by activating Fiendsmith Engraver, adding Fiendsmith’s Tract to his hand. He activated Tract to fetch Fabled Lurrie, which was discarded and Special Summoned with its effect. Then, Doile used Lurrie to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, which he Tributed to activate and Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears from the Deck. He activated Lacrima’s effect and sent another copy of Engraver from his Deck to the Graveyard.

Doile activated the effect of Engraver in his Graveyard and Special Summoned it by shuffling Lurrie back into the Deck. He then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Camellia with Lacrima and Engraver! Doile activated Camellia’s effect and sent Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from the Deck to the Graveyard. He then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari with Camellia and activated Kagari’s effect to add back the Engage. Doile activated Engage and grabbed Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones from his Deck. He activated it and summoned a Sky Striker Ace Token.

Doile Synchro Summoned Cupsy★Yummy Way using Kagari and the Token! He activated Cupsy★Yummy Way’s effect and added Marshmao☆Yummy and Cupsy☆Yummy, then discarded a Purge from his hand. Doile Special Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy and activated its effect to add Yummy☆Surprise. He then Link Summoned Yummy★Snatchy and placed Yummyusment☆Mignon onto the Field with Snatchy’s effect. Doile activated the effect of Mignon and brought his Cupsy back to the field. 

Doile Synchro Summed Lollipo★Yummy Way and activated its effect to bring back the Cupsy☆Yummy and Yummy★Snatchy that he used to Synchro Summon Lollipo. He then activated and Special Summoned Marshmao☆Yummy from his hand. Doile Link Summoned Reprodocus using Snatchy and Marshmao. He activated Reprodocus and turned Cupsy into a Fiend so that he could Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence! Doile activated the effect of Sequence and used Requiem and Lacrima to Fusion Summon Fiendsmith’s Lacrima, which he then activated to Special Summon Engraver from his Graveyard. He used Engraver and Lacrima to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar. Doile then Link Summoned Muckraker From the Underworld with Cupsy★Yummy Way and Fiendsmith’s Sequence. 

Doile activated Yummy☆Surprise and Special Summoned Marshmao☆Yummy from his Graveyard, then activated Marshmao to add back Surprise. Finally, he Normal Summoned Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion and Link Summoned S:P Little Knight! Doile Set 2 cards and ended his turn!

Caras drew to start his turn. 

Caras activated DoomZ Change, Doile Chained the effect of his Lollipo★Yummy Way and returned it to the Extra Deck, but Caras activated his own Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Doile added his Yummy☆Surprise to the Chain and Special Summoned Cupsy★Yummy Way from the Graveyard. Caras destroyed Power Patron DoomZ with Change, then tried to activate his Power Patron’s effect. Doile Chained the effect of Cupsy★Yummy Way and returned it to the Extra Deck to Special Summon Yummy★Snatchy and Marshmao☆Yummy from his Graveyard. Caras added Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron with his Power Patron DoomZ. Doile activated Marshmao and Snatchy’s effects, and Caras Chained Forbidden Crown! Caras negated Snatchy’s effect with Crown, and then Doile placed Assist★Yummy! face-up onto the field with Marshmao’s effect.

Caras placed Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron into the Pendulum Zone and tried to activate its effect. Doile Chained the effect of Assist★Yummy! and sent itself and Snatchy to the Graveyard to bounce Jupredo to Caras’ hand. Caras Normal Summoned DoomZ V Five – Amalthe and activated its effect, but Doile flipped up his Dominus Purge!

Caras concedes the second Duel! We are going to a third Duel!

Duel Three

Caras opted to start the final Duel of the match. 

Caras began with a Normal Summon of Medius the Pure. He tried to activate its effect, but Doile Chained Effect Veiler to negate Medius! Caras looked at his hand, activated Dimension Shifter, then Set 1 card and ended his turn. 

Doile’s opening hand was Dominus Spark; Piri Reis Map; Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju; and Harpie’s Feather Duster. He drew Infinite Impermanence at the start of his turn. Doile activated Feather Duster, Caras Chained Forbidden Crown, and selected his Medius. Doile Set 2 cards and ended his turn.

Caras started his turn with DoomZ Change. He destroyed DoomZ V Five – Amalthe in his Deck, and activated its effect to add DoomZ VII Seven – Elara. Caras Normal Summoned Elara and activated its effect to Set DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” from his Deck. 

Caras Xyz Summoned DoomZ Break – Diactorus with Medius and Elara. On the Summon, Doile flipped Dominus Spark and banished the Diactorus. Caras activated the effect of Medius the Pure in his Graveyard and Special Summoned it to the field. He tried to use its effect, but Doile Chained Infinite Impermanence. 

Caras activated DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” and then activated its effect to Special Summon Elara from the Graveyard. He activated Elara’s effect and Special Summon DoomZ Break – Diactorus using Elara and A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A. as Xyz Materials. Then, Caras Xyz Summoned DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio using Diactorus. Caras activated Graflerio’s effect to grab DoomZ Raiders from his Deck, which he activated to destroy Graflareio and Special Summon DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea. Caras activated Graflareio’s effect and Special Summoned Power Patron DoomZ. He activated the effect of Power Patron DoomZ and Special Summoned DoomZ XII End – Drastrius with Drastea, then equipped it with the Power Patron. 

Caras attacked Doile directly with Drastius. Then, he Set 1 card and ended his turn.

Doile drew Lacrima the Crimson Tears, for his turn. He activated Piri Reis Map and added Cupsy☆Yummy from his Deck to his hand. Doile then Tributed Drastrius for Gameciel! 

Doile tried to Normal Summon Cupsy☆Yummy, but Caras flipped over Solemn Judgment! Without any other plays, Doile offered the handshake!

Santiago Caras moves on with an 8-2 record with his DoomZ Deck!
