The “GMX” cards are a brand-new Dinosaur theme introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME in Blazing Dominion. Jim Mayorga from Trenton, New Jersey is the only Duelist in the tournament using this strategy, and he won his first round with it! Now, by pure coincidence, he’s Dueling against Eric Cardwell from Madison, Wisconsin – who was featured in our Round 1 written Feature Match – in Round 2! Cardwell is fresh off of a win with his DoomZ strategy, and if he plays his cards well, he may be able to secure another win to advance with a 2-0 record. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Mayorga opened up Duel 1 with GMX 55th Experiment Report, GMX Applied Experiment, GMX Lab #5, Droll & Lock Bird, and Mulcharmy Fuwalos.

He activated GMX Applied Experiment #55. He excavated Miscellaneousaurus, Souleating Oviraptor, Book of Eclipse, Forbidden Droplet, Droll & Lock Bird, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Fossil Dig, and GMX Associate Noma from the top of his Deck, and then fused Miscellaneousaurus with Associate Noma by sending both to the Graveyard. He returned the other 6 cards to his Deck and Special Summon GMX – ALLOS. He lost 3200 Life Points due to the effect of his Applied Experiment #55. Next, he banished Miscellaneousaurus from his Graveyard to activate its effect and try to Special Summon a Level 1 monster, but Cardwell Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Mayorga activated ALLOS’s effect to Special Summon Noma and then used Noma’s effect. He put Applied Experiment #55 from his Graveyard on the bottom of his Deck, and put Ash Blossom from Cardwell’s Graveyard on the bottom of his Deck. He Set Experiment Report before ending his turn.

Cardwell activated Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus. He sent Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Vidolium the Unstable Power Patron of Unity from his Deck to his hand. Mayorga activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird! Next, Cardwell activated Vidolium in his Pendulum Zone and used its effect to destroy the Vidolium and Special Summon Jupredo from the Graveyard. Mayorga gained 200 Life Points due to the effect of ALLOS. On its Summon, Mayorga activated Experiment Report and fused the ALLOS on his field with GMX Researcher Selande from his Deck. He Special Summoned GMX – VELOX. Cardwell activated Jupredo’s effect by banishing the top 4 cards of his Deck face-down. He destroyed Jupredo and Special Summoned Jupiter the Power Patron of Destruction from his Extra Deck, then attached DoomZ Raiders from his hand to it as an Xyz Material. Mayorga gained 200 more Life Points due to the effect of VELOX. Cardwell entered his Battle Phase, and then Mayorga activated the effect of his GMX – VELOX targeting Jupiter. He excavated GMX Researcher Selande from the top of his Deck, Special Summoned it, and then destroyed Jupiter. He lost 400 Life Points since he only excavated 1 card with VELOX’s effect. In Main Phase 2, Cardwell Normal Summoned DoomZ V Five – Amalthe, and Mayorga gained another 200 Life Points. Mayorga activated his Noma’s effect and fused together ALLOS, Selande, and Miscellaneousaurus from his Graveyard and banishment by returning them all to his Deck. He Special Summoned GMX – COMPREX. Next, Cardwell activated DoomZ Raiders. He destroyed Amalthe and Special Summoned DoomZ VII Seven – Elara from his Deck, and Mayorga gained another 200 Life Points. Cardwell used Elara’s effect to Set DoomZ Change from his Deck and then activated it. He destroyed DoomZ Destruction from his Deck and then used the effect of Destruction to equip Elara with Power Patron DoomZ from his Deck. He used Elara’s effect to Special Summon DoomZ Break – Diactorus from his Extra Deck with Power Patron DoomZ and Elara attached as Xyz Materials. Mayorga gained another 200 Life Points. Cardwell activated Diactorus’s effect and destroyed Raiders in order to destroy COMPREX. Next, he Xyz Summoned DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio over Diactorus, and Mayorga gained another 200 Life Points.

Mayorga drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring for his turn and then banished Experiment Report from his Graveyard to activate its effect. He excavated Called by the Grave followed by GMX Chairman Kimridge, and added the Chairman Kimridge to his hand before returning Called by the Grave to his Deck. Cardwell activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird, stopping Mayorga from adding any more cards from his Deck to his hand for the rest of the turn. Mayorga Normal Summoned Mulcharmy Fuwalos and then sent Fuwalos, Selande, and VELOX to the Graveyard to Link Summon Promethian Princess, Bestower of Flames. He used its effect to Special Summon Selande from his Graveyard and then sent the Princess and Selande to the Graveyard to Link Summon Salamangreat Raging Phoenix. He sent Raging Phoenix to the Graveyard to Link Summon Worldsea Dragon Zealantis and then used Zealantis’s effect to banish all monsters on the field and then return them. All monsters returned in Attack Position, and then Mayorga used Noma’s effect to fuse VELOX and COMPREX from his Graveyard by returning them to the Extra Deck, and Special Summon GMX – ALLOS. He used Noma’s other effect to place DoomZ Destruction on the top of Cardwell’s Deck, and with no cards in his hand, Cardwell conceded.

Mayorga uses his “GMX” strategy to take a quick victory in Duel 1 with some help from Droll & Lock Bird!

Duel Two

Cardwell started off Duel 2 by activating Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

Next, he Normal Summoned Amalthe and used its effect to add DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Drastea in his hand by targeting the Amalthe. He Special Summoned Drastea and destroyed Amalthe, and equipped his Drastea with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G.” from his Deck. Next, he activated DoomZ Change and used the equipped Drastea’s effect to target and destroy the Change. He used Change’s effect to destroy Elara from his Deck. In a new Chain, he used the effects of the Change he destroyed and the Elara he destroyed. He Set DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” with the effect of Elara and returned Elara to his hand and Special Summoned it by using the destroyed Change’s effect. He equipped DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to Elara and used its effect to Xyz Summon DoomZ Break – Diactorus with DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” and Elara as Xyz Materials. Next, he Xyz Summoned DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio and detached an Xyz Material from it to add DoomZ Raiders from his Deck to his hand. He activated Raiders and used its effect to destroy Graflareio and Special Summon another Elara from his Deck. He then used the destroyed Graflareio’s effect to Special Summon Amalthe from his Graveyard. He combined Elara with Amalthe to Xyz Summon Springans Merrymaker and then used Merrymaker as an Xyz Material to Xyz Summon Gigantic “Champion” Sargas. He used Sargas’s effect to add Therion “King” Regulus from his Deck to his hand, and then activated Regulus’s effect in his hand to Special Summon it to his field with the Graflareio from his Graveyard equipped to it.

Mayorga started off his turn with Harpie’s Feather Duster, Dogoran, the Mad Flame Kaiju, Souleating Oviraptor, and GMX Researcher Selande in his hand, and then drew Mulcharmy Fuwalos for his turn. He activated the effect of Fuwalos from his hand in the Main Phase and then activated Harpie’s Feather Duster. Cardwell Chained the effect of Drastea to Xyz Summon DoomZ XII End – Drastrius with Drastea and “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G.” attached as Xyz Materials. Mayorga drew a card thanks to Fuwalos’s effect, and the cards in Cardwell’s back row were destroyed. Cardwell then used the effect of his destroyed Graflareio to Special Summon Elara from his Graveyard, and used Elara’s effect to Set DoomZ Destruction from his Deck to his field. Next, Mayorga Tributed Drastrius from Cardwell’s field to give him Dogoran instead, and then Normal Summoned GMX Researcher Selande. He activated its effect, but lost out to the effect of Cardwell’s Therion “King” Regulus. Mayorga promptly conceded, pushing the Match to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Unprepared for going second in this Duel, Cardwell passed his turn after making no play at all!

Mayorga drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring for his turn and added it to his hand of Lightning Storm, Harpie’s Feather Storm, Souleating Ovirpator, and Selande. In the Draw Phase, Cardwell activated the effects of 2 copies of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and Mayorga negated the second copy’s effect by using Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Mayorga activated the effect of Miscellaneousaurus in his hand and then banished it from his Graveyard to Special Summon Returned Dino Daneen from his Deck, allowing Cardwell to draw a card from the effect of Fuwalos. Mayorga used Daneen’s effect to add GMX Partner Selandea from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned GMX Researcher Selande. He used its effect to Special Summon GMX Associate Noma from his Deck, allowing Cardwell to draw another card, and then used Daneen’s effect to fuse Daneen with the Partner in his hand and Summon GMX – ALLOS. Next, he sent Noma and Researcher to the Graveyard to Link Summon Cross-Sheep with a Link Arrow pointing to ALLOS, and used the effect of ALLOS to Special Summon Selandea from his Graveyard linked to Cross-Sheep. Then he used the effects of Cross-Sheep and Selandea. Cross-Sheep Special Summoned Selande from the Graveyard and then Selandea Special Summoned Miscellaneousaurus from banishment. He activated Selande’s effect next, but lost out to Cardwell’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he entered his Battle Phase. He attacked directly with all of his monsters except for ALLOS, which couldn’t attack since it used its effect, dropping Cardwell down to 2500 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Mayorga Link Summoned Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames, allowing Cardwell to draw another card, and used its effect to Special Summon Selandea from his Graveyard. Next, he used the effect of the Selande on his field to send it back to the Deck and negate the Promethean Princess’s effect for the rest of the turn. Then, he used Promethean Princess and Selandea as Link Materials to Link Summon A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow. He activated its effect to banish it and Special Summon Noma and then used Noma’s effect to return Cross-Sheep from his Graveyard to his Extra Deck and put Fuwalos on top of Cardwell’s Deck from his Graveyard. Finally, he ended his turn and returned A Bao A Qu from banishment to his field.

Cardwell activated the effect of Fuwalos in his Draw Phase and then entered his Main Phase. He Normal Summoned Elara and activated its effect to Set A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A. from his Deck. Next, he activated Jupredo in the Pendulum Zone. He activated its effect and destroyed the Jupredo along with Amalthe from his hand, destroying A Bao A Qu. He used Jupredo and Amalthe’s effects to add Power Patron DoomZ and Terminus from his Deck to his hand, prompting Mayorga to activate the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. Next, he activated the effect of Drastea in his hand, destroying Elara and Special Summoning Drastea. He equipped it with D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G. from his Deck, and then Mayorga activated the effect of Noma. Cardwell Chained Drastea’s effect. He Xyz Summoned Drastrius and Mayorga Fusion Summoned GMX – VELOX with the effect of Noma. He activated Drastrius’s effect and Mayorga Chained the effect of VELOX to destroy the A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A. that was face-down. Drastrius’s effect resolved, equipping it with ALLOS, and then Cardwell activated Plundered Power Patron Plane – Vidolia. He banished a card from his hand face-down and Special Summoned Jupredo from his Deck by revealing Jupiter from his Extra Deck. Next, he used Jupredo’s effect and banished the top 3 cards of his Deck face-down to Special Summon Jupiter from his Extra Deck, with the Terminus from his hand attached to it as an Xyz Material. Next, he used Jupiter’s effect by detaching an Xyz Material. He Special Summoned Amalthe and destroyed VELOX. He entered his Battle Phase and attacked Miscellaneousaurus with Jupiter to destroy it. Drastea attacked and destroy Noma, and then Amalthe attacked and destroyed the Oviraptor. Since Mayorga gained Life Points for each Summon Cardwell made while his Fusions were on the field during this turn, Mayorga still had 6300 Life Points left after Cardwell’s attacks.

Mayorga drew Mulcharmy Fuwalos next turn and then banished Miscellaneousaurus from his Graveyard to activate its effect; but Cardwell used his Drastrius’s effect to negate it. With just a Fuwalos and Harpie’s Feather Duster in his hand, Mayorga conceded.

Cardwell wins the Match 2-1 with his DoomZ Deck, taking down the only “GMX” Deck in the tournament!
