With just two rounds left in Day 1 here at YCS Columbus, OH, these Duelists both know that a loss will severely hurt their chances of making it into the Top 8 tomorrow. 

Logan Kite, from Knoxville, TN, is playing Elfnote, which just received new support in Blazing Dominion. 

Giuseppe Iuni, from Columbus, OH, is using a pure Mitsurugi Deck this weekend.  

Both Duelists are 6-1 right now and hoping to keep that going in these last two rounds.

Duel One

Iuni won the dice roll and chose to go first. Kite activated Mulcharmy Purulia in the Standby Phase! In the Main Phase, Iuni activated Pot of Extravance and banished six cards to draw two new cards.

Iuni activated Mitsurugi Ritual and Ritual Summoned Futsu no Mitama no Mitsurugi from his Deck by Tributing Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi from his hand. He activated Murakumo and added Mitsurugi Mirror. Iuni then activated Mirror and Tributed Futsu to Special Summon Murakumo from the Graveyard. He then activated Futsu’s effect and added Mitsurugi Prayers from his Deck to his hand and Special Summoned Futsu from the Graveyard.

Iuni Set 3 cards and ended his turn!

Kite started with Elfnotes: Welcome Home, Elfnote Fortuna, Fydraulis Harmonia, and Elfnote Tinia. He drew another Mulcharmy Purulia to start his turn.

Kite activated Elfnotes: Welcome Home, and then Special Summoned Elfnote Fortuna in his center Main Monster Zone. He activated Fortuna, but Iuni Chained Infinite Impermanence and negated Fortuna. Kite tried to use the effect of Welcome Home, but Iuni Chained and flipped Mitsurugi Great Purification!

Upon seeing Great Purification, Kite immediately conceded the first Duel.

Duel Two

Kite chose to go first in the second Duel. He started with Fydraulis Harmonia, two copies of  Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, and Kashtira Fenrir.

Kite started his turn by Special Summoning Kashtira Fenrir. He activated its effect and added another Fenrir from his Deck to his hand. Then he moved to his End Phase and ended his turn!

Iuni activated Dimension Shifter and then activated Mitsurugi Ritual to Ritual Summon Murakumo from his hand by Tributing Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa, and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji from his Deck. He activated Aramasa, Saji, and Murakumo’s effects. Destroying the Fenrir, and adding both Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi and Mitsurugi Prayers.

Iuni then activated Habakiri’s effect, but Kite negated it by activating Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Iuni then activated Prayers and Tributed his Habakiri, Kite Chained Ghost Belle and Iuni Chained Murakumo’s effect. Kite discarded his other Ash Blossom to ensure that the Ghost Belle resolved. In a new Chain, Iuni activated Habakiri and added another copy of Mitsurugi Prayers. 

Iuni went into his Battle Phase and attacked directly with Murakumo, then Set 1 card and ended his turn. 

Kite drew Elfnote Regina at the start of his turn. He Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir and then went into his Battle Phase and attacked Murakumo with Fenrir. He activated Fenrir, then Iuni chained Prayers and Tributed Murakumo. He added Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi, and took 800 damage to Special Summon it. In a new Chain, Iuni activated Murakumo and Kusanagi’s effects. With Kusanagi, Iuni added back Prayers, and then Murakumo hit the field and destroyed Fenrir. 

Kite went to his End Phase with an empty field.

Iuni Normal Summoned Mulcharmy Fuwalos and used it and Kusanagi to Xyz Summon Gallant Granite. Iuni activated Gallant Granite and detached the Kusanagi for its effect. Kite Chained his Fydraulis Harmonia and revealed five Synchro Monsters. He destroyed the Murakumo and Special Summoned Harmonia. Iuni then added Nibiru, the Primal Being to his hand with Gallant’s effect.

Iuni activated Prayers and Tributed Futsu from his hand. He added Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa, and Special Summoned Kusanagi back to the field. In a new Chain, Iuni activated Futsu, then Chained Kusanagi and added back his Habakiri. With Futsu, Iuni added Mitsuguri no Miko, Wousu from his Deck to his hand. He then Tributed Habakiri and Kite’s Fydraulis to Special Summon Wousu from his hand!

Iuni activated Habakiri’s effect and added Mitsurugi Mirror, which he then activated and Tributed Wousu for Murakumo. Iuni then Link Summoned Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy with Gallant Granite and Kusanagi. He activated Dharc’s effect, targeted Fydraulis Harmonia, and Kite offered the handshake!

Iuni continues on with a 7-1 record with his Mitsurugi Deck!
